unregulated street parking in London?

We need to leave the car somewhere. It's a very cheap car and I'm not worried about it being stolen, really. is there anywhere in London, obviously we know it won't be central, where street parking is unregulated and I could leave it for a few weeks? thanks!

Oh and I have sent you a PM afussyphase :)

Have you thought about airport parking? Not too expensive, your car is safe and you won't piss off any residents. I live in a regulated area now but my last place wasn't and if any unknown cars were left for more than a few days neighbours would make an assumption and report them as dumped. It is a bit unfair if where you end up leaving it causes problems for people living there.

Crystalglasses - you seem to think the parking spot outside your house is yours. Weird woman. Anyone can park in any unregulated street for as long as they want as long as vehicle is legal.

malovitt · 23/09/2011 12:59

I can't understand all this reporting either, as long as the car is taxed and insured it can be parked anywhere.
What a bunch of busybodies.

crystalglasses · 23/09/2011 13:08

What's wrong with some of these posters? Lebag and Malovitt this is aimed at you. Read my previous posts please. Are you aware that cars are regularly dumped/stolen in London streets?

ChristinedePizan · 23/09/2011 13:09

Well those cars are 'taking up valuable parking space' Wink

LaBag · 23/09/2011 13:19

Crystalglasses - ok so if you think a car is stolen you call the police, give them the registration number and within 5 seconds they will know whether or not a car is stolen. That's it. You, however, say you will report a car because someone is in "your space" on the street. Grin GrinGrin

MortaIWombat · 23/09/2011 13:26

Come to SE23. We have lots of space and very little residents' parking. Green and leafy Sarf Landan, dontcha know. Smile

And we won't report your car to the authorities

Kendodd · 23/09/2011 13:26

Can you park it near the house you plan to buy? Does it have a drive they would let you use? If not can the owners get you a parking permit?

crystalglasses · 23/09/2011 13:32

LaBag that is not what I said at all. If a car was parked outside my house for a number of weeks without being moved, and if none of my neighbours knew anything about it I would report it to the police. Abandoned/stolen cars as well as lack of parking space in general is a huge problem in our area and ours is probably the only road without regulated parking, although this is shortly to change.

Try south Lambeth - Streatham, Norwood or south Balham have plenty of unregulated parking. FWIW cars with expired tax get 3 months round here before being clamped and then another couple months before being carted away!

There's enough turnover of cars round here I doubt anyone would notice a new one not moving for a few weeks. Or care.

Thanks so much everyone, good to know what I'm getting into here. Will check on the car, or if in Walthamstow I'll ask someone to check on it, every now and then. We did check the house we're buying but the owners don't have a car so they haven't got one of the allocated spaces (which we'll get, but can't before we complete, grrrr). Would have been the best. I confess, we paid 600£ for this car a few years ago, so even paying airport parking is going to add up, over a month or more, to more than the car's worth! (not that I'm abandoning it by any means). I think I'll try Cricklewood and then Walthamstow if that doesn't work.. but glad to know there are options in South London too...
