Have been looking at booking something for Easter and have seen an advert for forest holidays. Has anyone been on one? I am wondering what the accommodation is like?

Bumping as I'm interested in them too.

These are the ones owned by the Forestry Commission right?

We went to one in North Yorkshire a few years ago and the accomodation was very good indeed. The site was quite cleverly set out as well so that althought you could see the other cabins, everything was set at an angle so you had a fair degree of privacy.

We have been to most of these over the years. They all have a similar format, though some have a campsite onsite as well eg Argyll and Cropton. We like the fact that we can take the dog, and just throw the children out to run around. It is worth paying extra for one with a hot tub, though.

Bumping this older post as I am interested in these holidays too.

We would be travelling from Ireland by ferry. Deerpark in Cornwall looks best suited to us. Has anyone been?

Thanks

watching, afterbeing put off Featherdown Farms by Mumsnet and having swore never to go to Butlins with a lid.

Shock at the prices though!

I've been to the forest of dean cabins they really are lovely - if you pick December January dates (excluding Xmas and new year) you can often get a weekend for £200 which is what we've done twice.
Would recommend to anyone!Smile

We are thinking of booking a week in July to the Argyll Cabins (Ardgarten) with Forest Holidays but have heard the midges can spoil the holiday. Has anyone else had a problem here? Any other tips for visiting this site? Happy to take insect repellent/citronella candles etc.! Thanks

We've been to two of the Forest Holiday venues (Keldy and Deerpark) and love them; the cabins we've stayed in have been clean and airy. Some of the venues have ranger activities, which my DS's love - batwatching was a real hit.

We've thought about the Argyll ones, too. We've booked a similar type of thing near Skye for July. The midges aren't at their worst til August, but they can be put off with Jungle Formula

@ Fozzleyplum - Thank you. Just about to book online now and will try to pre-book the ranger activities.
I've also heard that Avon 'so soft' has something in it which puts the midges off, but presumably has a more pleasant scent than the conventional insect repellants.

We have been to Strathyre,Crompton & Argyll. I love the Forrest holidays generally we have the membership so we get to stay at discounted prices.

Argyll is fairly remote so do your shopping in advance and don't expect to be able to pick up a takeaway.

I'm not sure if there will be a midge problem, yes the Avon so soft is meant to keep midges away.
