Hi

I'm going to be in Bristol this weekend and will be on my own with my 22 month old on Saturday afternoon. Can anyone give me any recommendations as to what we could do to pass the time ?

Where will you be? If near the City centre there is a very good museum (free entry) at the top of Park Street with an area specially for under-5's. My dc's love going there.

We are staying in the Bristol hotel. I think it's fairly central. That museum sounds great - thanks.

I'd second the museum suggestion, and if it's a nice day, a very short walk from there is Brandon Hill which has a good children's play area. Also lots of good cafes around there.

Or if it is tipping with rain and you don't mind spending some money, you could head down to the harbour area to @Bristol - hands-on sciency museum, a lot of it would go over the head of a toddler, but there are lots of things aimed at that age as well. Or next door to that is a new aquarium - they always seem to appeal to toddlers.

We have been to the @ Bristol place lots of times with children from aged 2 - 14 and all find something to enjoy and do. The cafe is good as well. We have also been on SS Great Britain - Brunels ship and again the children loved it.

The museum again, we never tire of it. :)

Thirded museum is great and Wagamama nearby for lunch or lots of other cafe's also just walking along the waterfront near the @bristol bit is good too.

Aquarium is crazy expensive we prefer the zoo better value.

Yes, aquarium is very expensive - I haven't been yet (though DCs have - school trips etc - and said it was very good) but I just noticed that it is one of the ones you can use Tesco clubcard points to get cheap tickets for, so we might do it over the summer...

Wow ! Thanks for all the responses. Sounds like the museum is a winner.

Would I need transport to get to the zoo ? I won't have a car but could get a taxi if it's not far.

The zoo is just about walkable from the museum (about half an hour?) but there are buses going from that area - I think the closest stop to the museum would be the one more or less outside Gregg's and the Bodyshop - opposite the museum. It's the number 8/9 bus route that goes to the zoo. There is also a taxi rank on the same side of the road as the museum if you want to get there quicker.
