Hi, before my husband goes for his next scary scan I would love us all to escape for a break. Have trawled for hours to try to find the right thing. We all love forests, lodges, nature, wildlife, hot-tubs and saunas, something to keep 3x`s 13yr olds amused! Would love something fun and different!

Coombe Mill in Cornwall? www.coombemill.com
No hot tub, but the rest is there!

mummymeister · 10/05/2011 14:34

We stay at Wringworthy holiday cottages which is near Looe. they have a swimming pool and stuff for older kids in their barn like air hockey and table football which is free and my kids (13,11 and 8) lived on. The pool is lovely and warm. Didnt have hot tubs last time but worth checking out.

triplets · 11/05/2011 00:11

Coombe full up, and Wringworthy have 1 cottage left, £880 a week!

Ponders · 11/05/2011 00:44

well it is half-term & the cheapest places get booked up early...

how much were you hoping to get away with?

triplets · 11/05/2011 12:40

Tops is £500 a week would be bliss or not less than three nights, its really hard to find something with interest for all!

have a good look round that website, pick different areas/dates/facilities, see what you can find Smile

Ponders · 11/05/2011 13:49

or \link{http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/lodges/oasis-lodges-LP5295?SDATE=2011-5-30&DURTN=4&FLEXR=3&FMASK=2&CHCT=3\this one in Herefords?} £615 "features one of the country's only natural, bio-top swimming pools" - no idea what one of those is!

or \link{http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/lodges/kingfisher-apartments-LP1793?CHCT=3&DURTN=4&SDATE=30-5-2011&FMASK=2&FRMPRC=400&UPTPRC=599&TIDPDUKPARK=accommodationInfo#accommodationList\near Norwich} - £565

There's nothing at that sort of price for 7 nights though

Ponders · 11/05/2011 14:03

\link{http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/cottages/castle-cottage-e4930?PETCT=0&ACODE=E4930&ADCT=2&CHCT=3&INCT=0&DURTN=7&SDATE=30-5-2011&FLEXR=3\cute cottage in Derbyshire} £481 for the week (£100 off) - no extras like hot tubs though & only 2 bedrooms (plus sofabed in lounge)

but nice location, with country walks...

\link{http://www.hoseasons.co.uk/cottages/grange-cottage-e4195?SDATE=2011-5-30&DURTN=4&CHCT=3&FRMPRC=400&UPTPRC=599&ACODE=E4195\beautiful cottage in Cheshire} £460 for 4 nights - next to a NT property (& several others in the area) - 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms

triplets · 11/05/2011 22:25

Ponders, you are being sweet, would have loved the lodge nr Hereford but just cannot go above £500. Other places lovely for us but not enough for three lively teens.

fireflies09 · 12/05/2011 07:26

We stay at Coombe Mill, which is great for me and the children as they love the farm but there's somewhere just up the road in walking distance, called www.hengarmanor.co.uk. I know they have a swimming pool and some hot tubs. We drove through their site and it's much bigger then Coombe Mill, so they may still have space. Good luck, hope you find somewhere!

Ponders · 12/05/2011 21:37

\link{http://www.holidaylettings.co.uk/rentals/bodmin/119330\lodge near Bodmin} too much for 7 nights (£650) but 4 nights should be £400-450.

'220 acre country estate with woodlands, lakes, marshland and a wide variety of flowers, fauna and wildlife. Located centrally to both the Atlantic & Riviera coast, an ideal base for exploring Cornwall.' loads of outdoor activities plus swimming pool, fitness centre etc (it says jacuzzi/hot tub too but I think that's probably just a whirlpool bath)

You book direct with the owner but don't worry if you haven't done it before, these owner-booking websites are very reputable

Ponders · 12/05/2011 21:48

\link{http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/p469862\lodge in N Devon}

'an excellent base for an active family holiday, for exploring the rugged beauty of North Devon, or just for a quiet retreat - an ideal location for a diverse and unforgettable break. This luxury lodge sleeps 6 comfortably.
The lodge is situated within 'Hartland Forest Golf Park' , which has a river valley and lakes. The lodge has a good position overlooking the lakes, hills & farmland. This secluded peaceful site has lovely walks on its doorstep as it is surrounded by the 100s of acres of Hartland Forest; real haven for wildlife, birds and visitors.'

2 bathrooms, linen & towels provided, £500 for 7 nights! (use of leisure facilities at a country club nearby - £1.50 per day per child, £2.75 per adult)

there are some reviews at the bottom of the page

Ponders · 12/05/2011 21:54

\link{http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/p410974?uni_id=1007335\one final lodge, in S Cumbria} - £519 for 7 nights

triplets · 13/05/2011 14:22

2/3 already booked, grrrr shows available on site but when you phone they have gone!

OP posts:
mummymeister · 13/05/2011 14:41

have you looked at lastminutecottages.com website. Have used them in the past and found that they show a true picture of who has what available. There must be something out there for you - fingers crossed.

Ponders · 13/05/2011 15:29

oh sorry triplets Sad

do you mean lastminute.com, mummymeister? that just links to cottages4you (which does have fairly live information, but there's nothing there to suit triplets)

triplets · 13/05/2011 20:43

Ponders, you are being very sweet, just about to have another trawl.

OP posts:
SaggyHairyArse · 14/05/2011 16:26

What area are you coming from (so as not to suggest somewhere too far to travel)?

triplets · 14/05/2011 22:36

I love your name:o
I live in Deal, nr Dover, Kent. Been searching again, but nothing worth having. Lots we can`t afford:(

OP posts:
mummymeister · 15/05/2011 10:39

Hi Ponders there is a website we have used called lastminute-cottages.co.uk which has lots of independent cottage owners on it who post what they have not lastminute.com which i am not a fan of! (my brain was addled due to impending sleepover of 8 X 11yrolds!)

triplets · 16/05/2011 06:12

Getting desperate, can find nothing suitable or we can afford..........really need a break before the next ct scan:(

OP posts:
Ponders · 16/05/2011 11:16

you might well get a late cancellation nearer the date - nobody will be cancelling at this stage for half-term but some will in the last few days beforehand, if a child is sick or something.

having said that, cottages4you have started with theirs - \link{http://www.cottages4you.co.uk/sites/cottages4you/pages/PropertyDetails_C.aspx?QS=3E0F3DCD-882D-4738-9E61-B90EA3C005F2~C~RXX8~~216~GBP~~0~~A~N~~7ba91242-bb47-4a52-87af-dee7886a9b97~29935~0~0~~~Y~N~#nowhere\this one is £518 at 50% off} for 4 nights from Mon 30 & it's a fabulous place - if you are interested RING THEM, NOW, because website isn't completely live. (if link stops working later property ref is RXX8, you can put it in on the home page)

if it turns out to have gone you can ask them to do a search for discounted properties under £500, & ring every day until they have something suitable

good luck!

Ponders · 16/05/2011 17:41

damn, sorry, it only sleeps 2 (I don't know why I didn't notice that this morning...Sad)

ring them anyway, they can search for everything on 50% discount & new ones get added on all the time

triplets · 16/05/2011 22:36

Thanks Ponders, you are really being very kind. Have sent off a few inquiries today, left messages etc, fingers x`d!
