Primrose Valley Haven Park, any good?

I've never been to a caravan park but we wanted to go to the coast and they seem to have some very good deals on at Haven. Any advice?

From reading reviews I know that there is a big difference between one Haven park and the next. On their site there are 3 parks in Yorkshire, one they list as a 3, one as a 4 and then Primrose Valley is a 5*, so we thought we'd try that one. We've looked at the prices and think we'd go for a deluxe rather than a standard or a standard plus caravan. Plus, we'll be going before the schools break up for summer - what can we expect do you think? We'll be taking a toddler and a baby with us.

I've been to all 3 of the Haven parks in that area; Primrose Valley is the best one by far if you want plenty to do. My dd is older but there seemed lots to do with babies and toddlers, and plenty to do in the surrounding area.

Rather than booking directly with Haven, have a look here - the caravans are privately owned so are usually full of extra stuff and generally nicer, plus it often works out much cheaper too Smile

Primrose Valley is the best in that area but really dependent on the age of your children. PV better for the older ones whereas the other sites would be fine and probably cheaper if your DC's are only young.

TooMany Thanks for that link, if you book through the link you gave me do you still have access to all the Haven facilities, swimming pool etc?

Primrose is really good, we've been there for a week when i wanted to visit a friend nearby, lovely and clean and the mash and barrel was lovely :)

Chrissy We'd mostly be using it as a place to sleep and be out in the day I think, but like the idea of having our own kitchen area and the freedom of our own caravan rather than a hotel. We think we'd use the pool, the beach, playground and walks around the boating lake, maybe bike hire but wouldn't really use anything else. I know we'd be paying for staying on a park that has extra facilities/activities but just want to be somewhere nice rather than somewhere tatty. Not really sure what to expect though.

5 star? for real? i was apalled when we went here - we went in pool at 10.30 am it had been open an hr and the nappy bin was overflowing in the changing area with shitty napies unbagged on the floor i kid you not, the whole area around pool stank of piss and it was so full it was like a scene of titanic. Granted we onluy booked a deluxe caravan so not a gold or platinum and 3 caravans later we submitted and took a caravan which only had holes in the walls, flies stuck to the matress and dirty cutlery not to mention the bacteria growing inthe fridge and the neighbouring caravans soiled puke ridden bedding thaqt was left outside for 24 hrs - we left a day early and i wrote to the owners who frankly didnot give a shit. In contrast we went to one in burnham on sea and it was bloody gorgeous. Oh and underneath the caravan was an array of bottles, bars if soap and a pair of underpants. I hear flower of may a non haven site nearby is much nicer but have never been. We chose primrose valley as a few weeks before friends had gone to blue dolphin and there was a firearms incident inthe club house that put us right off.

Found this www.phlp.co.uk/revitalise.php Patrington Haven Leisure Park, though it isn't a Haven one (name is misleading) which looks nice, less jazzy IYSWIM but its near Hull and we don't really want to go to Hull.

hotandhappy that sounds like the holiday from hell! We genuinely had a good time when we went, but booked directly with a caravan owner so the caravan was lovely.

CremeEgg If you book direct with a caravan owner, you just purchase entertainment passes, usually the owners sort that out for you. They don't cost a lot and give you access to all the pools/entertainment etc.

I absolutely love staying in static caravans, it feels like playing house Grin

CremeEggMcFlurry · 03/05/2011 20:48

Thanks TooMany, we'll have a good look at those privately owned caravans and decide what to do! Its just that having never done a package holiday or a caravan park holiday, either here or abroad, we have no idea what to expect. Maybe we should just be brave and book it!

it truly was, i wrote a letter it was quite funny in parts Grin, i imagine it was published in the funny letter portfolio haven must hold! i remember also they had a que to have picture taken with a slimy feeling dirty looking tiger thing - roary - anyway my kids 2 and 6 at the time after persuasion by us jioined the que and some jobsworth declared they were too late - i could have lamped him one. Also ther is this bucket in the pool area that fills then tips out from some height and soaks the dick heads stood underneath - on getting to pool area we stood in this area and 2 life guards smirked despite our 2 yr old obviously nervous and yes the fucker tipped on us with such a force it knocked ds over - it pretty much went down hill from there. i think we paid about 7 quid for me a scampi lunch in the mash and something and got 4 peaces of scampi - fecking disgusting.
