Where to go to the beach from Oxford ...

We seem to be pretty much centre of the UK. Didn't grow up here so have no history of where we went when little, etc.

We are also thinking of going out for the day to a theme park or something. I was thinking of Paulton's Park (sp? - Peppa Pig World). Any nice beaches and hotels that we could combine the two?

We have a 2 1/4 yr old ds if that makes nay difference ...

Many thanks in advance for any ideas :)

Easiest beaches to reach probably Bournemouth (you'd need to pass the New Forest, so a stop at Paulton's would be OK. On a good day , B'mth is about 2hrs from oxford (we do it loads, as have family further west, in Weymouth). On a bad day....... (you know the A34, right?)
2 1/4 yr ds would prob like Beaulieu (motor museum) in New Forest, or you could go to Swanage (a bit west of Bournemouth), which has lovely beach and a steam railway
Or you could go to Southampton and get the ferry to Isle of Wight. Lots of beaches to choose from.
Going west, about 2 hrs to Cardiff and then the S Wales coast (but until you get to Gower, beaches are nothing special), but if you're going to stay away then Gower might be OK.
They're all a long way for a bit of sand.....

Oxford is about the most remote point in the UK from the coast Grin Pick your day carefully or arrange an overnight stop!

Well, (sorry, puts pedant face on)technically, I think the furthest point from the sea is near Coventry, but hey, not far off!An alternative if DS is a cheerful child, would be to take the train (direct to Bournemouth; my DS loved it at this age and would love it still)

Thanks all. Sorry, just realised I had answers!

Think we may head south as you suggest wearymum2000. Yes, I know the A34 only too well so fingers crossed!!

Mudeford Bay is a lovely place for little ones, with lots of soft sand and pretty beach huts all along. There is a care/restaurant and public loos etc.
Access there is either from Hengistbury head and then climb aboard the little noddy train, or by quick cheap ferry (200 yrds) at the Mudeford Quay end.
We are staying in a beach hut this Saturday , (my DS is 10 yrs so a lot older) weather permitting.
