Oscars on little stonegate is nice for either lunch or tea (big portions, sandwiches and burgers etc) and has a kids menu I think - is also handily near the best ice cream place in York (Luxury Ice cream company)! There's also the spurriergate centre on coney street - it's a canteen style place inside an old church. Food is normal stuff, sandwiches/jacket potatoes etc but is child friendly and has a small play area for toddlers I think. The cafe at the bottom of the city screen cinema, off coney street, is also very nice and child friendly but gets busy quickly.

There is also the usual plethora of pizza expresses / strada etc.

If the weather is good you could do worse than get some take out from one of the many delis in town and have a picnic in the museum gardens.

Enjoy your visit!

sounds great thanks.

One day after breakfast were heading to the train museum and I want to grab some sarnies on route - where do you suggest?

i believe the train museum cafe is excellent, haven't been there myself but have been told this by some really quite fussy friends.

\link{http://www.bettys.co.uk/menus.aspx\Bettys & Little Bettys} are both nice and have a childrens menu. Black/white waitress/waiter service. You will need to q but soooo worth it.

The centre of York has all the usual M & S, Boots etc. We stayed right in the centre round from the cathedral so just walked to the museum. Parking in York is a nightmare!

dontdillydally · 18/04/2011 14:24

Pizza Express & ask for table by the windows as can watch the activity on the river/people on the bridge. Very close to access for walk along the walls/museum with garden & 2 mins train museum (which is free).

Blossom street to the rainway museum you don't really pass anywhere to get sandwiches unless you divert down Mickelgate - about 1/2 way down there is a sandwich shop and you can then cut through to Toft green and then cut through again in front of the Cedar Court Hotel and then straight ahead under the walls and about 5 minutes walk takes you to the museum. The other option is to divert up Blossom Street out of town - 2 minutes from the hotel is a tiny Sainsburys which will sell Sandwiches and there is at least one other sandwich shop there too.

our ds wants to go on the road train from the minister so we will be heading that way
