I have a dirty weekend planned for later this year in Edinburgh (with dh I might add!) and am looking at hotels and places to eat. The ones on the Mr and Mrs Smith site look nice, my kind of thing, but I'd love to hear other MNers thoughts please!

Martin Wishart is out of my price range for dinner, but I had a truly amazing lunch there last summer.

My parents had a great time at Ondine for lunch this week - staff were lovely & food and drink was great.

I also really like Stac Polly. Have had some really good meals there over the years, both the Dublin St and Grindlay St branches.

Not so up on hotels as we usually stay with my parents when we're in Edinburgh, but dh & I had a couple of nights in the Malmaison in Leith a few years ago. It's down near the waterfront so convenient for good eating/drinking places and not too far from the city centre.

Had my wedding night in the Howard on great king street in the new town. 4 poster suite - 5 star- private butler- very exclusive, small and boutiquey. Wouldn't eat there (not that we did) just cos not sure if it would have enough atmosphere. I would head out to Martin wisharts or oloroso or the witchery and then head back there.

Oh yes the Howard is nice we went there for afternoon tea on Saturday and whilst it wasn't quite the right venue for that ( too intimate, not enough people there, The Sheraton or The Balmoral are fantastic for aternoon tea) I would imagine it is a gorgeous hotel.
