Where to go? Alternative to Croyde / Saunton Sands area of Devon...so how about Wales as an alternative...

We very often camp near Croyde / Saunton Sands in North Devon as we love the area or spend holidays in France either camping or in a gite.

But, this summer we want a cottage holiday for a week.

I've looked all around the croyde area and can't find anything suitable thats really under £1200 to sleep 5 in 3 bedrooms in the summer holidays.

So, I was wondering where anyone else would suggest. The cottage has to be within walking distance of a beach and be fairly modern internally. I wondered what other areas anyone would recommend. How about somewhere in South Wales but I don't know the area at all.

Can't recommend a cottage but we are the same, camp in Croyde nearly every year, but we have been to St.David's in wales. Lovely coast and really enjoyed it. So I would say Wales is a good alternative

The Gower peninsular is lovely.

Pembrokeshire is great, Broad Haven is a great beach (beware there are two beaches of that name, both great, one with a town next to it). There are two main agencies for that area, and we've used both to get nice cottages.

Saundersfoot is lovely

or

try around Harlyn Bay in Cornwall - there are 7 (I think) beaches in the locality - I will try to remember them.

Thanks for these suggestions, I can find a cottage its the ideas for new areas and recommendations for good beaches that are brilliant. Thank you. Keep them coming!

Have a look here. There are guides to shops, activities, restaurants etc. for each area too.

how about Bideford - www.robinhillfarmcottages.co.uk is 4 miles to Westward ho! beach where there's excellent surfing and it's only about 1/2 hour drive onto the hartland peninsula with all sorts of beaches - rocky, cliffs, sandy, rock pools. 3 miles to tarka trail as well and canoeing on the River Torridge.
Heron cottage sleeps 6, 3 bedrooms available w/c 23 july - costs £1180.

We love Croyde but as we live about an hour away we don't stay there. We are going to Broadhaven in Pembs. Lovely lovely beaches - if you like surfing the beaches on the west coast are best but there are many good ones further down.

Don't know about South Wales, but North Wales (lleyn peninsular, Anglesey) v nice. And there's Snowdonia so there's other options if the weather isn't good for beaching.

I second the Gower - loads of beautiful sandy beaches, some good surf ones (Rosilly, LLangenith)and some quieter ones (you have to walk along a valley with a meandering stream to get to or down a cliff path) such as Three Cliffs Bay. Accomodation is much cheaper than Devon and Swansea is nearby if you need the city, leisure centres, museum etc.

The St brides peninsula area of Pembrokeshire is lovely

slanting off topic slightly... but I am interested in reading that OP and ptiger regularly camp in / near Croyde. Can I ask where? We camped in Croyde a few years ago and are looking to return this July.
