Nice but not too expensive.

Any recommendations?

The City Centre Travel Lodge is in a lovely old building and about a 1 minute walk into the shopping streets. Cheap but cheerful and with a bathroom that needed a bit of a revamp but was fine and clean etc, we literally only used the room for 'sleeping'Wink and went shopping/meals out/sightseeing etc.

Our room looked out over the city roofs - it was beautiful really and only about £49 quid.

You can park overnight quite cheaply in the Charlotte street Carpark- about 10 mins walk from hotel.

AtYourCervix · 31/01/2011 14:31

aha! only need it for one night -of passion--. going to treat DH Grin I rather fanied a suite at the royal crescent but its £900 a nighyt!

the blurb mentons it is above a nightclub. was it noisy?

vintageteacups · 31/01/2011 14:40

nope - not noisy.
Just realised it's you!
Don't think we got in until about 12:30 and didn't hear anything then. Unless that nightclub wasn't there when we went.

It was about 5 yrs ago I guess

exexpat · 31/01/2011 14:41

A friend of mine stayed at the Carfax a couple of years ago and said it was good - decent-sized rooms, quite central (short walk across Pultney Bridge to the Roman Baths etc) but away from the most crowded bits.

Only thing is I think it is a temperance hotel, ie doesn't serve any alcohol - so no room-service champagne. I don't think they can stop you sneaking your own into the room though.

GooseyLoosey · 31/01/2011 14:42

Although I haven't stayed here, I have been for dinner a few times and it has always felt lovely (and I am very fussy) and is in a great location: The Windsor

vintageteacups · 31/01/2011 14:43

My budget travel lodge suggestion now sounds really cack compared to those two Grin

GooseyLoosey · 31/01/2011 14:46

Sorry, I lied - dinner was at the Carfax, and the Windsor is near by. What about the Bath Spa hotel (a bit cheaper than the Royal Crescent, but maybe not much)?

AtYourCervix · 31/01/2011 14:48

i like the price of the travellodge Grin

thanks all!

the travelodge is grim mind

prefer the holiday inn express, yes it's a little further to walk to, but it is nicer and includes breakfast

vintageteacups · 31/01/2011 14:59

it was fine when we stayed furball. Perhaps you've stayed more recently though.
The room was clean, simply furnished, tv, coffee tray and small but clean bathroom.

we only wanted it for that - went out for breakfast and more shopping so that didn't bother us. But you could buy 'ready made' breakfast from the machine (cereal/croissant etc).

If atyourcervix wants luxury though - I agree, travel Lodge isn't in any way luxurious Grin

Furball · 31/01/2011 15:02

our bathroom door was broken, so couldn't close it. It was a bit tricky as I was staying with a friend!

jumpingjackhash · 31/01/2011 15:03

If you're happy to stay a little way outside the city, we recently stayed in a lovely B&B in Box (about 5 mins drive from the city). Otherwise there are a few manor-house hotels just outside the city (think in the direction of Limpley Stoke) which are lovely.

SemperEadem · 31/01/2011 15:03

Ooh vintage - you must have been lucky with your room.

I stayed at that Travelodge in July this year and it was very very grim.

We had to move because of the nosie of the nightclub below. The noise all depends on where you are in the hotel as the windows aren't double glazed due to it being a listed building or something. Fag ends on the bedroom floor anyone?!

Furball · 31/01/2011 15:04

lol at dirty romantic weeked at limpley stoke Grin

jumpingjackhash · 31/01/2011 15:09

Not in LS furball! I went to uni in Bath and remember a really nice hotel around there - going back around 15 years though! Grin

Furball · 31/01/2011 15:13

it's just that name is not appropriate for that sort of weekend Wink

jumpingjackhash · 31/01/2011 15:14

Hee hee!

I second the thoughts on the Travelodge though!

AtYourCervix · 31/01/2011 15:17

ok. not travel lodge then.

luxury would be nice but at budget price.

Harringtons is very central - again though it could be noisy (Bath city centre is very noisy at the weekends - and bastard seagulls squawking at 5am are a problem all the blinking week).

jumpingjackhash · 31/01/2011 15:21

There are some nice suggestions here www.mrandmrssmith.com/destinations/united-kingdom/bath

BranchingOut · 31/01/2011 15:23

The Town House

lovemyalfa · 01/02/2011 19:20

The Bath House luxury B&B is absolutely stunning and really reasonably priced compared to the hotels. It's about 15 mins walk to the city centre and there's a car park about a minute away. Breakfast in bed / your room is obligatory and me and the DH had some very raunchy good times there!
