the museum is good, its free also another bonus. its four floors high and you can spend hours and hours in it.

there is mary kings walk which is a guided tour underground but it may be a little scary for ds but i am sure if you google it you can judge for yourself.

having your photo taken next to the statue of greyfriers bobby.

vitoria restuarant is nice (There is about 3 in the city but the one on the bridge is family orientated. it is an italian and one of the best i have tasted. it is definitely worth eating there.

just generally exploring the royal mile and surrounding grassmarket are, take in the buildings, there are so many small alley ways to peep down and side streets to look at, perhaps let ds take pictures of the old buildings etc,

princess street is the more modern part with the high street shops etc

we love edinburgh and have been three times, we are going back in May

Dynamic earth?

Also, the national museum of Scotland on chalmers street - it was closed for refurbishment but I think it has re-opened.

You could see if you could get the boat from Leith over to Inchcolm Island and back, thats quite a nice thing to do.

Have fun, Edinburgh is my favourite place in the whole world.

open top bus trip gives a good overall view and feel of the place; museum of childhood on the High Street; museum of Scotland on Chambers Street
browse/drift/wander - theres lots of lanes and closes which evoke their own feel of history, especially off the High St; the height and history of the buildings is inspiring

For a weekend there's no need to leave Edinburgh!

Only part of the museum on Chambers Street is closed for refurbishment - there's still loads to see there. I love it.

The castle is huge, leave lots of time to look round. It is a bit military oriented (regimental museums and stuff) but there is lots to see. They fire a cannon at 1 o'clock every day (except Sunday) - it is audible from Princess Street so don't get a fright.

If you like heights you can climb the Scott monument on Princess Street where you get a great view. Just wandering down the Royal Mile and the Grassmarket is great too.

I loved living in Edinburgh, can you tell? NExt time come back in August for the festival - it's a totally different place.

I love Edinburgh!! Royal yacht britannia is excellent, Mary king close, botanical gardens, castle definately, Arthurs seat if weather is fine and roslin chapel which is a little way out of town but worth a visit! Scott monument is a good quickie xxx
