hi, my dad is due to collect my nana from wales tomorrow. apparently the road between her and hereford is passable as my aunt did it yesterday, before worcester is a motorway, so presumably that's okay.

does anyone have any up to date info about the road between worcester and hereford? there are some pretty hairy hills as far as i recall from my childhood, presumably they have been gritted.

also will the road be crazy busy as no one has been able to get out, or has it been passable the whole time so no more traffic than usual?

I was on the road between Hereford and Worc about 11am this morning (for a brief distance, probably half way between the two cities) and it was fine but since then the snow has been coming down like mad.

Keep bumping and someone nearer might be able to give you nearer/more up-to-date info

m5 then m50 would be ok, but between thre and hereford could be hairy, they were gritted but we've had snow.

actually the m50 can be hairy too lol

Its snowing really hard at the moment so I wouldn't risk it to be honest.

I'm in Worcester - it is a total nightmare. Sheets of ice and this morning I couldn't even get to Tesco! I've heard Hereford is not so bad.

itsTwiiiiitmaaaaasss · 20/12/2010 16:10

we've had about 2 inches this afternoon and the road to hereford is always dodgy, we are a between hereford and worcester
I wouldn't try personally especially as it will start freezing soon.

Tything · 20/12/2010 16:13

Its snowing in Worcester right now but only lihtly. The roads were passable but slow this morning. Its the road through the Malvern Hills that gets blocked very easily and quickly if it starts snowing.

I know people who work in Worcester but live in Malvern that flee home as soon as it starts snowing because they wont get home otherwise.

I wouldnt risk it. If I had to I would take a lot of gear with me and expect to have to spend 24 hours in the car.

Not great.

I just phoned a friend who had just come off the road at Fromes Hill (about half way) and couldn't see at all. The road isn't too bad but the snow is very heavy at the moment. Might be better tomorrow though, they do tend to grit that one quite frequently.

Malvern is awful at the moment, but we are on a hill so it might be worse up here.

Still sowing heavily here btw. Hereford too apparently.

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 20/12/2010 16:18

The main road through Worcester is not too bad - slushy snow this morning.

Spoke to someone who got in from Pershore OK this morning. I suspect it might be OK to make the journey to Hereford. The problem is if it snows again rather than conditions right now. Getting there is one thing - getting back is another

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 21/12/2010 09:53

I think it might be OK, but it is forecast to snow all day. Train to Worcs maybe?

LoopyLoopsOfSparklyFairyLights · 21/12/2010 20:35

How did it go?

janek · 22/12/2010 09:15

he didn't go...

he'd already decided not to, then my aunt rang and said she'd hit ice and come off the road to hereford in a friend's car and hit a tree.

then he read this saying don't bother, so that vindicated his decision.

thanks for all your help.

ps yes a train would be the best way, if someone could drive her to hereford we could pick her up in birmingham, but she's more of a coach person and the coach takes forever...
