So...
First time on holiday in London. I've visited many times, but just passing through.

THis time I'm staying with a childless college friend, so she'll know lots of general info.

BUt my question is, where do I go with the kids??? She won't have a clue, probably, having not yet crossed to the other side.

PArks, any recomendations?
I just saw on another thread that the tube is better than taxis. Is this right?
Are there any cafes/play areas where I can have a coffee while the kids play [or is this just wishful thinking? ]

Any hints, tips or advice welcome Smile

Well, the museums are always good. For instance the Natural History Museum or the Science Museum. And of course they're free.

Yes and Coram's Fields is a brill kids only park/playground/city farm if the weather is ok. It has a cafe and because it's gated and children only you can let the kids wander about.

info here: www.coramsfields.org/

Tube definitely fun at the weekend but avoid avoid avoid rush hour unless you like being squished and daggers-ed for having children with you.

London's pretty big. Can you narrow it down a bit?

Sakura · 16/10/2010 15:59

thank you. she's in couch end (???) Never heard of it. But I'll be going to the centre, definitely

Tube is horrible beyond belief.

Buses are supposed to be much nicer but I wouldn't have a clue which one to get.

I'd suggest:

Trip on the river
Downstairs bit of the science museum (lots of interactive stuff),
Feed the ducks in regents Park

Crouch End, I think you mean, tis in North London

PestoEatsPumpkinsandSurfers · 16/10/2010 16:04

Go and see Tower Bridge and the Tower of London. I probably wouldn't bother going in either of them with your dcs so young though. You should also take them to have a look at Buckingham Palace from the outside too.

serenity · 16/10/2010 16:29

Yep Crouch End's North. Only asked because I'm in South London, so my local suggestions won't be much use. Alexander Palace is just down the road for you, if you wanted a park you could walk to. Bit of a nasty hill with a buggy, but the view from the top is spectacular. The swing-park is nice iirc, and there's a lake to walk around and a little zoo of sorts. We've wandered around it after going to events at the Palace (which is a convention center rather than anything more exciting!)
