Hello

As (family of 4) our 2011 Summer holiday will be in the UK...I want to avoid the likes of Butlins, Centre Parcs, Hoseason etc - by getting a really British tourism experience but suitable for a young family... which is why I need help with

a) Where would you recommend going? & Why?

b) And when deciding on holiday at home, what makes a 'perfect holiday for you'?

If you can answer either one of these questions - i'd be extremely grateful

Rebecca

Hmmmm, seems a bit jouro-tastic for me.
But I will tell you that I love the Isles of Scilly.

Isle of Wight?

You get all the fun of a short ferry trip from either Portsmouth or Southampton.

Has a good reputation for sunshine and some sandy beaches, plus places like Blackgang Chine,The Needles, Alum Bay, Osborne House and Robin's Hill Park.

norfolk - lovely beaches, loads to do

good family holiday - nice self-catering house, walks, nice pubs, nice beaches, things to do in case of rain

but my favorite place is the lakes

Hi, We have stayed at Wringworthy cottages in Looe Cornwall. Very family friendly with farm animals and indoor play area safe swimming pool. Its small - only 7/8 cottages but lovely country side setting that we really enjoyed. The biggest plus is that they have children themselves and so all the usual baby stuff is provided free of charge and they take in shopping deliveries.

What makes the perfect holiday for us is that the children are somewhere safe with other children and that they can play out without us having to be on hand all of the time. I personally prefer smaller independent places without a bar on site and somewhere that won't be all hi de hi and organised things to do. Hope this helps!
