Where would you go? DH and I love the lakes, but I think the walks we used to do might be a bit beyond the dc(3+5).
Ds1 can manage 7 or 8 miles, but ds2 probably only about 5, with lots of breaks/food and interesting things to look at/do.
I think they'd have more fun if they were walking to somewhere to do something, rather than for the sake of it.
I was thinking about the Peaks, but any thoughts welcomed...we live in London, so ideally not right at the other end of the country.

Have you thought about maybe Sussex? Have done some lovely walks there with MIL, DH and DS1 (aged 4 now) and DS2 (in rucksack).

Have you ever been \link{http://www.geocaching.com/seek/default.aspx\geocaching?} Would give your DSs a purpose for their walk - to go and find plastic tat, lol!

I live near the peaks and there are some great child friendly walks round here.

Last weekend we did a lovely walk of about 3-3.5 miles up Win Hill from Hope woth a 5y, 7y and 8y. The week before we did a walk of aboit 3 miles with a 3y, 2x5y, 7y and 8y; this was near Edale. We geocached our way round and it really kept the children's interest.

Where did you walk in Sussex?
There will (all going well) be a dc3 imminently, so gentle walks preferred...

MIL lives in Hove so have stayed with her and done day walks around there - DH has a Great family walks book that we've used for circular walks around Sussex, which generally have pubs either half way along the walk or at the end for lunch if you time it right. Did a really lovely one (around 5 miles) a few weekends back near Lewes.

might look into geocaching - would really appeal to ds1, I think.

Pubs half way round also sound good. Obviously only to get lunch for the starving children.

Try (bits of?) one of the long distance footpaths. Thames path/ Cotswold Way/ Ridgeway all reasonably near London.
