Boating in Norfolk

Hi,
Its my DH's 40th next year and as it falls during the spring bank holidays I thought it would be a good idea to combine it with a holiday.

He has always been into boats so I was thinking of booking a cabin cruiser for a week on the Norfolk Broads but I'm not sure Confused.

If anyone who has done this could share their experiences I would be really grateful.

TIA

no idea about crusers but saw a company that does canoe trips - that looked cool

We've done it - it was fun but quite hard work. Also, do you have small children? It can be tricky getting on and off the boat, plus watching them like a hawk all the time as you are near water, so would not be a restful break. OTOH larger children can be quite useful and enjoy pottering around!

We were on the River Yare, which is tidal, and I wouldn't recommend it to a fellow-beginner as you have the current of the river, plus the wind, plus the tide to deal with when steering and parking your boat. But the rest of the Broads is not tidal.

Thanks,

Ds will be 11 so would be able to help (maybe!)
The River Yare sounds a bit scary for a wuss like me!

We've taken a day boat out on the Broads before and that was great - I'm just not sure if a week would be a bit long. What is there to do? Is it just pottering around and chilling out?
(makes note to pack wine and booksSmile)

Oh 11 is fine, DS was about that IIRC, maybe a bit more, but at least you don't have to be paranoid...

Pottering about, going for walks or bike rides, eating and drinking in the pubs which are along the rivers. But yes, I'd bring a book or two, or the travel scrabble...

we had week on the broads, not too long. Mainly pottering around but we stopped in norwich for 2 days. Broads easier than the thames or other canals as no locks.have fun.

I live on the Broads (used to live by the Yare before here and yes the tide can be tricky).

It's lovely. We like pottering up and down, stopping at a pub for lunch, mooring up for a picnic etc. I think 4 days, 3 nights might be nice though. With a day in Norwich.
