The blasted fire alarm that wouldn't shut up even after I took the battery out....

But we're going again in December Grin

gregs · 22/10/2010 21:24

Love Love Centre Parcs have been going ever Xmas for the last 5 year, yes it is expensive but you get what you pay for roll on December 22 Sherwood here we come
Christmas day lunch for 2 adults 2 kids £153.00 i think that is reasonable.

nappyaddict · 23/10/2010 20:55

Has anyone been to Longleat or Sherwood? I want to try one of those tree houses at sherwood forest or new style exclusive lodge at longleat. How much am I looking at for a week?

gregs · 24/10/2010 11:42

We have been to both Longleat is our faviorite a bit hilly but more to do with younger children a treehouse at Sherwood is about £3000.00 pounds for 4 days start saving!!!!

Kez100 · 27/10/2010 21:11

We have been to Longleat about 9 times now. Started with a one bed executive when it first opened about 20 years ago, and have stayed in 1,2,3 and 4 beds - mostly comfort/comfort plus. We have stayed only once in school holidays, last weekend, and have decided the prices are too silly then - even though we got a last minute deal £200 off the original price. Some of our breaks over the years have been very good value indeed.

I do love it there, but we go purely to chill, walk, cycle and swim. I did notice traffic becoming more common a couple of years ago but, on our recent visit, it seemed to have tightened up a lot.

The accommodation also went through a stage of becoming very tired but those we have stayed in in the past four years have been refurbished enough now so that they are not too bad - it must just seem it sometimes during school holidays because of the cost. I always think what you are really paying for is not the accommodation but the expense of heating the plaza and an outside swimming pool in a UK winter!

There were a lot of villas out of action this weekend being refurbished and the park was not too busy as a result. We have never parked so easily, even though the accommodation available was fully booked. The only time I felt it was very busy was the pool on Sunday night. We normally stay until close at 9 when we are one of just a few left in but not this Sunday - we left at 8.15 as it just wasn't getting any quieter. Even so, there was still room to swim and to change as well - although you need a great sense of direction to find your way around the changing rooms.

Over all the years, I think we have spent about £150 on activities but I don't think they are awful prices when compared to the outside world. Whoever said bowling was £30 - it wasn't this weekend - it was £18 or £22 for 55 minutes depending on the time of day.

We have eaten a few times free of charge at Cafe Rouge on tesco vouchers but, unfortunately, they don't take them now. Otherwise we always self-cater - nice easy meals and that helps it become a better value break. This time we had tesco deliver the food to us at home in the morning and then, once it had been and school finished, travelled down.

It is definitely attracting a certain type now. Our car probably cost the equivilent of one tyre of most of the vehicles in the car park last weekend.

We are going back next year for a friend's special birthday weekend. Having a villa with our own sauna, ensuites to each bedroom, wi-fi and maid service and it's costing us £95 per person. At £32pppn (or £64 per room) I think that's ok : premier travel inn sort of price. Not cheap, granted, but not expensive. We will self cater between us, bringing special food and our own wines, each family doing two courses to make a 6 course meal on the night of the special birthday - which will no doubt start having been swimming until 8.30 in the dark!

I can fully understand where everyone on here is coming from and no one has said anything that hasn't crossed my mind at some point over the years, but I do think you can make it a less expensive break in some circumstances. School holidays where you pay for the whole family who like activities and don't want to swim a lot - I agree - it's terribly expensive.

haben't been for ages but have been to the one on the A66 twice, and to sherwood forset twice, The main bugbear, apart from the cost, the rapidly becoming manky villas, the limited choice for eating out, the fact you dare not take your own bike incase it is stolen was the ver limited opening hours of what was presumably the main attraction - the pool - didn't open until 10am, if you've toddlers up at 5.30am that's a very long wait Wink, and it closes pretty early too, around 9 pm so no chance of a nice post dinner dip.

nappyaddict · 28/10/2010 12:34

If you take a car down surely you can eat at places outside of Centre Parcs though? I've never been to Centre Parcs but have been to Haven etc and we never eat on the park. We always find nice, local restaurants to go to.

Why can't you take your own bikes? Can't you store them inside the lodge when you aren't using them to ensure they don't get stolen and padlock them up if you cycle to places in the resort on them?

I went bowling yesterday at Star City in Birmingham and it cost 17 quid for 2 adults and 1 child and that was just for one game!!

mummymeister · 02/11/2010 18:20

I felt a bit like we were on a conveyor belt when we went to CP. Wandering around from one thing to another, trying to book activities for the children that were always full. I hate going places where you pay to get in or stay and then have to keep on paying for everything else thereafter. They should make it all inclusive and not try to cram in so many people. Sorry but we wouldnt go to this or anything like it again I much prefer cottages or appartments perhaps on small sites. More personal

OhLuckyYou · 02/11/2010 18:28

I think it's much better than it used to be a few years ago - being able to book activities on line makes it much easier. Before that, you used to have to wait for the brochure to come 2 weeks before then there would be a mad scramble for places. We went at half term and had a great time. Yes, the decor is a bit dated but the beds are great (better than most manky hotel/apartment beds) and they are well equipped. Yes, it is expensive, I usually bring loads of food with me cos the supermarkets aren't great for fresh stuff and v.expensive.

TBH, if you have really little kids, Butlins is just as good. We went to Bognor when they were 5 and 3 and they loved the free funfair and there were Bob the builder shows etc plus it's right on the beach. You definitely do feel a bit trapped at CP, like you've spent all that money so you have to stay there!

brazenhussy · 03/11/2010 20:51

Center Parcs addict here Grin
We go at least 3 or 4 times a year and we love it
I love the fact that you virtually never see Riff raff there or unsupervised children running riot.
I agree the accomodation isn't brilliant but you can always upgrade if you require more than a basic room.

Incidentally I read recently that 93% of all the 3 parks accomdation is full 97% of the time so they are obviously doing something right.

nappyaddict · 04/11/2010 01:03

The option for all inclusive would make me more inclined to go I think.

Kez100 · 04/11/2010 20:42

I don't think they could do all inclusive because the activites just couldn't cope with the numbers. They get full up as it is! As others say they do have good occupancy rates and have hung off dropping prices by much to get full occupancy. We had £200 off as a last minute break - equivilent to 20% - but we had little choice of villa number and it was out in the sticks.

I am just about to book a weekend next year elsewhere (because we have won it in a raffle - yippeeee) and that is £585 for a weekend. We only paid £120 more for CP and thats for 2 more people, 6 not 4, and we had a brilliant pool at CP rather than a pretty good pool where we are going next year.
