Hi there

we've made a snap decision to visit london tomorrow (bank holiday monday)

anyone with any suggestions tyhat might surprise and delight us.

as it stands, the nippers (8, 6 and 2) want to go to see buckingham palace, the science museum and then re-visit the south bank (where we went to last year as well as the natural history museum, HoP and Trafalgar Sq).

Sounds fine, but just wondered if we're missing anything else worthwhile or perhaps a bit more groovy.

let me know if you have any thoughts

thanks as always

Well, the Notting Hill Carnival is on; I wouldn't fancy taking a 3yr old into the crowds, but loads of people do, and love it.

Also the Imperial War Museum has "Horrible Trenches", and is easily reachable from the South Bank.

Think about your route round London carefully though. Around Paddington and Notting Hill it's going to be crowded, and you should check tfl website as at least 6 Tube lines are partly suspended.

I hardly think your young children will feel they have missed out on anything, if you stick to what you know. Sounds great, can I come too please? P.S. What do you mean by groovy? top tip, take sandwiches, water and sweets, nothing fancy. We call it Red Cross provisions! Travel as light as you can. Have a fab time Smile Give your DC some pics of what you might see before you go...the day will unfold from that.

Do not "do Notting Hill" it is very crowded, you can potentially be corralled into narrow streets, very caustraphobic and unpleasant because it can be quite a crush. In those circumstances, if you are pushing a buggy or are short, forget it. My DH and I did it a couple of years ago and enjoyed ourselves, our son was in the carnival procession but I could not have coped with children tbh.

update

just got back...carnival was ace!

got there nice and early before too crowded or too boisterous...really good couple of hours, great sights n sounds for the nippers and had curried goat for the first time ever!

great weather, great atmosphere, would recommend.
