Has anyone bought/know of anyone who has bought a holiday home on lower mill estate? Or has anyone stayed there? We're tempted but are a bit nervous to take the plunge and just want to make sure that it's actually as good as it sounds. Thanks.

old thread here which may help?

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the old thread, interesting reading. Looks like the overall opinion of the place is good. If anyone knows otherwise please let me know.

We had a great time recently. The chlorine in the indoor pool really really disagreed with my skin and I had a horrid rash after just one dip. Apart from that it was exactly as it said on the tin.

Great, thanks charlieandlola. It's such a big decision buying a second home any info on the place is greatly appreciated. Glad you enjoyed despite the rash!

We own a house at Lower Mill and love it there - we bought a resale in 2008 so we didn't do the whole off-plan thing. We use it ourselves and also rent it out so that it pays for its keep. In years to come we hope we will be able to rent it out lesss and go there ourselves more - we're next there for the August Bank Hol when they have a great festival with loads of things going on, tennis tournament, kids' It's A Knockout type stuff, bike races and photography competitions etc.

I love the freedom the children have there - they can go to the playground and shop/cafe by themselves, and basically roam around safely for hours. V different from life in London.

There has been a bit of a kerfuffle recently about the Service Charge on the Estate, but that is well on the way to being sorted out - the Sales barn should be able to give you the details.

Hello, we also bought a holiday home there (Goose Nest House) which we rent out, mostly to groups of families and advertise through a number of sites as well as having our own website (which interestingly generates a fair number of enquiries). Like Wilbur, we didn't buy off-plan, but bought a re-sale a couple of year's ago.

I'd be happy to talk to you about the pros and cons because, as you say, it is a big decision and it is certainly not a money-spinner, but if you like the Estate and want it as a good bolt hole from the stresses of everyday life with somewhere which is most definitely very family-friendly and want to cover some of your costs, then I would recommend it. Plus the Spa is gorgeous (assuming that you are looking at one of the properties that has access to the Artspa - only those at Clearwater Village and Howels Mere Village currently have spa access, those houses in Mill Village have access to a lovely outdoor pool)

PM me your details if you'd like to talk.

Thank you so much for your honest responses. I just wondered, do you use the house on weekends? We thought if we bought it we'd use it for some of the holidays but most weekends, and I'm just wondering now how realistic that is. Also, do you think once they build all the houses the pool and spa will become too busy, are there any plans for another spa? Sorry, I really want to know everything!!!

We go for weekends mostly, and parts of the holidays. I love the place in winter when it is beautiful and really quiet. I'm not usually there at v peak times as we have the house rented for those, so I don't ever experience overcrowding but some do complain about the paek summer weeks being quite busy in the spa. Don't think there are any plans for a new spa, but the possibility of a new heated outdoor pool to easy overcrowding has been discussed. No solid plans though.

I get the impression that they may not build all the houses that they have permission for, but then that's always going to be up in the air, I guess.

Thanks for the info. We're going to visit again and perhaps stay there a few times before making a decision. We're also going to take a look at the place that's just up the road, think it's called Watermark. Anyone know anything about this place?

still love it - we were down at our house Goose Nest house just this last weekend in the sunshine, hired a canoe from the shop and took dds aged 4 and 5 out on the lake. Spent all of Sunday in the outdoor pool, in Otober! PPM me and I'd be happy to talk.

Yorkshiremother79 · 07/04/2012 16:43

Any updates on this. How is it with the service charges these days? Did it get resolved?

Have a vague idea of buying here one day...

Liketotalk · 20/04/2012 22:26

Thank you Cheryl23 and rachaelmd, we haven't bought a property there but are still thinking about it. We clearly take a long time to think!! Do you still use your properties lots and do you rent them out fairly easily? Thanks.
