We went to the Elvedon at the end of November last year and they had Winter Wonderland. We didn't specifically choose to go for that but the DSs had a long weekend off school and it just happened to be during that period.

Basically it was lots of decorations. Lights in the trees and they had animated model reindeer and a big model snowman. There was a Santa's grotto but there was a charge for that (and he was the grumpiest Santa I've ever come across!). There was also a pantomime - very good but, again, there was a charge.

The decorations did make it all look very beautiful and Christmassy. There was also a fireworks display one night which was great (and free!) and featured Santa in a speedboat on the lake. They also had a life-size animated polar bear who did performances a couple of times a day. That was worth a look (and also free).

My DSs are older than yours (5 and 6 at the time) and they really loved it. I'd go again at that time of year but wouldn't pay extra for the priviledge and would certainly give Santa a miss!

We went when dd and ds1 were 4.5 and 22mths. As MummyDoIt said, it was basically CenterParcs with lots of fairy lights. It was very pretty. They had an animated reindeer display which we had to drag ds1 away from. Santa was ok but long queue.

There weren't any fireworks when we went that time, but we went another time for Guy Fawkes, and the fireworks display over the lake was very good indeed.

We went to the whinfell winter wonderland a couple of years ago and our kids were simila age to yours now. We went at the end of November so it wasn't hideously expensive and had a lovely time. The village looked really pretty and dd still talks about the pony ride to santa's grotto.

Went to longleat last year on the cheap 3 days before xmas deal and we arrived in the snow and it was magical. i hope we are not going to be dissapointed as ive booked 5 nights before xmas for this year. We have 4 dc age 15,14,8 and 5 and its fab, weve got a lodge outside the pool and really looking forward to it. The kids loved rudolph in the forest but it was the snow that made it for me.
It sorts all the xmas pressies as well, they have money from grandparents to spend there and then stockings when we get back from santa.
