Hi just booked my trio on a PGL holiday here next Tues-Sat. If my husband is well enough we might sneak away for a couple of nights, any recommendations around that area please, don`t know Sussex at all. Thanks

Looks like it is near Hailsham - is that right?

If you like walking, wonderful walks on the Downs (Seven Sisters and BEachy Head is fab but a bit strenuous but you can do flatter walks like Cuckmere Haven to foot of Seven Sisters and/or go a bit further afield.

Lots of National Trust/English Heritage type places within easy reach e.g. Herstmonceux castle, Alfriston, Bodiam Castle.

Lovely beaches - best by far is a bit further at Camber Sands with glorious dunes and huge sandy beach (near Rye which is also lovely) but Fairlight near Hastings is quite nice too.

Hastings is a little bit grotty but has nice old part and the beach there is interesting with all the fishing huts.

Not too far from Brighton for big night out

Lewes is interesting old town too.

Sussex is lovely! I live here so am a bit biased, but there are loads of interesting things for a couple of nights.

Also lots of lovely walks along the top of the Downs heading east from Lewes to Devil's Dyke - you can always park at say Ditchling Beacon and walk from there - wonderful views but you start at the top so no big uphill.

thanks megan.......he is on chemo, having it today actuallym but we soooo need a little break, its been a tough 2 yrs. Do you know of nice accomodation, not too expensive as its costing us an arm and a leg to send the kids? I don`t want to sit at home ironing!!

He also likes gardens, a friend has just made him a member of the National Trust and we belong to English Heritage.

There are beautiful gardens in Sussex - nymans, Sheffield park, wakehurst, leonardslee, borde hill etc. So def a great place to visit if you like them.

If that is what you want to do - sounds most relaxing option if he is going through gruelling chemotherapy - then I would aim to stay a bit further west from where your kids are - most of the gardens are around the m23 corridor.

I don't know any specific places as we live here so haven't had to use them. But Brighton or lewes might be good bets to look at as good choice of accommodation.

May be a bit expensive but The Griffin in Fletching is great for a stay, and a base for the area.

Still looking, quirky nice place, even small cottage, just something that would be a treat......any ideas?

Sorry I don't have any specific recommendations to make, but you may find this helpful:

Lewes area B&B. Lewes, Seaford and Eastbourne all have Tourist Info Offices which may also be able to help.
