Trying to get more work as a tutor

I'm currently on a part time contract where I am and extra hours sont seem to be forthcoming. I've done tutoring in the past on an ad-hoc basis, from word of mouth but now thinking of joining a platform to do online tutoring.

There's so many of them out there though and I don't know which ones are good or not. The other option is setting myself up as a private tutor, but I don't really know where to start as I'm a bit cautious of being too public on social media. I do get that most people seem to find tutors this way, but I'm too self conscious.

If you are an independent tutor or with an agency, then what advice can you give at this point? Thank you.

It might be worth joining an agency to start and build up your confidence that way. They usually don't mind you finding your own clients too. The big companies/agencies often have many tutors on them and no one seems to get a bite of the apples, so you need to find a small local group that you can join.

Also, people often advertise their tutoring on FB groups or respond to parents that are asking for tutors - but again, once a parent puts out a post everyone jumps on board and replies!

I'll send you a DM as I know a small agency that might work for you. 👌

Do you have QTS? If so, have you considered EOTAS tutoring?

Thank you for your post. You are right, that was my experience of responding to an FB post asking for tutoring too.

I shall respond to your separately.
