Advice on starting GCSE maths tutoring after A levels and exams

Hi. I am a 19 year old who has finished their A Levels last year (June 2025) and is interested in doing some GCSE tutoring particularly in the subject of Mathematics. I achieved a 9 in my GCSEs and an A* in my A-Levels. Would be happy to discuss me towards the goal of helping your children achieve the best grades

I see lots of young people advertising as a tutor after doing well in their A levels and if parents are happy to pay you, that’s fine but I don’t think, just because you are good at a subject, that you can necessarily teach it well. What if your students don’t find Maths as easy as you? Teachers train for a reason, however, if you can get work, fair enough.

There are plenty of online opportunities for people in your position, but be cautious of some agencies, and do your research on Trustpilot for reviews as well.

There is a whole thread on GoStudent which I was glad to have read before I submitted an application.

The other thing you could do is see if you could get work with eg Kip McGrath or Kumon study centres.

You should go for it, with those grades it shows you have a good grasp of the subject. You're also in a good position to help others as the knowledge will still be fresh and you will know the pain points that students struggle in. A lot of students finishing their A Levels are in a great place to start teaching, it's more than feasible!
