13 plus tuition?

People that have invested in 13 plus tuition, was it worth it? and how much might I expect to pay for a tutor? Currently trying to navigate the world of tuition, and am unsure whether it will only add pressure to my child, or whether the benefits outweigh the drawbacks? Let me hear your experiences...

I have been down this road before. Look, children are always stressed by schoolwork, extracurricular activities, peer pressure, and puberty. Exams only add to that. So, getting a tutor to help iron out academic issues and boost confidence is actually the best thing you can do in this situation. I would rather be safe than sorry.

The big question is whether DD/DS needs a tutor, and whether you are willing to pay for a good-quality tutor.

My personal experience: my DD was predicted to pass her 13+ examinations. I still hired a tutor, and my DD began to score better in mock exams as skills and confidence improved. Needless to say, the 13+ exam results were better than they would have been without a tutor. We kept the tutor, and while some of DD’s ‘cleverer’ classmates started to struggle after Year 9, we did not face the same problem because the tutor was there to guide her and fill in the gaps left by school.

Thank you for the comment. I think as you say, it's a confidence boost and more about the emotional/social impact than actually improving exam results (though hopefully this happens regardless). My DS sits comfortably within their cohort so I'm not too concerned about failure, but feel that with the money to spend, it could be beneficial to have the reassurance for myself (and them) of a tutor.

Looking at Keystone, Stratum Tutoring and Ivy at the moment...
