Can someone please help with a recommended tutor for the 4+ for north london private schools ? we have only considered private late so he does not attend one of the typical nurseries, so we are very concerned that he may not be up to speed on the assessments! any help or contact would be greatly appreciated as we fear we have left things a little too late, thank you

Does he really need tutoring for 4+? It’s usually all fairly basic stuff that any bright 4 year old should be able to do - colouring, counting, knowing a few letters, maybe write their name. DGD had to make some food out of play dough. She made a pizza and told the teacher that if she ate it she would be inflated and fly away (she got a place). One of the main issues is that they expect the child to go off with a teacher without the parent/ carer and if they don’t, that’s it.

4+? Please tell me this isn’t true.

I agree maybe tutoring is the wrong word. He is quite sensitive, so I would just like him to have experienced the process before so that on the day isn’t stressful for him.

I have sent you a DM with who we use. I'd say it was more "coaching" than tutoring but having spoken to other parents in the past year most did some sort of preparation for them (either with a tutor or at home). They're fiercely competitive!

Can you please share the tutor recommendation? Thank you.

As a teacher at one of the schools that's mentioned here a lot about 4+ (don't ask, I wont tell lol) it's interesting reading these posts! We would always say that 4+ tutoring is not needed as we look for things that children should already be learning, however, every child is different and I can understand that some parents might want the tutoring to help secure the place (although nothing is ever secure!). I do know people that have done a mock assessment to see how their child performs. Then they worked on the gaps before the real assessment. I'm not sure if I can say where they did it on here as I don't want to get chucked off! lol but that might be a way to go 👌

@trawlerwoman - I’d be very grateful if you could please send me those details.

@BeUniqueTealCat - what are the usual nurseries?! I’m roughly your neck of the woods but behind you on the timeline. Just when you think you’ve got a grip on the process, you read stuff like this and the panic starts again!
