New Tutoring Agency Advice

Hi, my friend and I have started a small tutoring agency. We both have worked in London Prep Schools and we focus on 7+, 8+ and 11+ and curriculum support. At the moment, we’ve been working successfully through word of mouth. But we’re considering whether we should advertise. How do most people find their tutors?

I thinks there is a website called findatutor or something like that

Do you have any friends with DC of the age you will be tutoring? Give them discounted rates in return for a promise to tell everyone you’re fab (if they get the result they want) and to keep quiet if they don’t.

I suggest this because word of mouth is really important, but difficult to get going in the early days without a loss-leader

Also advertise directly in places like the Families SW (or NW etc) magazine, now mainly online, that people look at a lot because its events and services listings are very good.

I actually work in an education agency and we have students who often need tutoring for entrance exams. A lot of tutors get clients via this route.

We already work with some agencies, but always like to have a range of options. If you're interested you're welcome to PM me (once that feature is reinstalled that is 😅)

Hi @SlaterGreen we are in the same boat as you! lol. A friend and I have recently set up a tutoring agency too and have a mainly word of mouth clients. It helps that my son is in Reception as I can tap into the parents there to spread the gospel lol
I would also suggest making sure all your ex-colleagues have you in mind because school parents are also asking for tutoring recommendations.

Everyone has told us that FB is the place to get more clients, but all the groups I have joined are full of overseas tutors or AI profiles (I don't know how they get in!) and as soon as someone says 'I'm looking for a tutor' they pounce like piranhas in a tank lol

I think it is one of those things where it will become exponential and you'll have too many before you know it! lol
Good luck 🤗
