How do you find suitable private tutors for your children? Word of mouth is a good way but any other good advice?

Facebook post in mums groups.

Www.findtutors.co.uk or similar site. You pay a small fee by means of intro

Even if a tutor comes highly recommended doesn't necessarily mean they are right for your child. Look on tutoring agencies like pp has posted and message a few tutors with your DC's needs and personality. Have a trial lesson or two (even if need to pay) and decide whether a right fit for your DC.

Teachers are better than tutors I think. At gcse.

Agree word of mouth. Ideally from parents of kids a year or two older than your kids - parents of kids in your child's year may not want to give up their child's edge by recommending the tutor they are using.

I agree with @OnlineMathsTuition - usually teachers in school will know other teachers from other schools that will tutor and can recommend.

I tutor for some subjects (online) and get most of my students this way.

What subject are you looking for?

BeautifulAndBrave · 02/01/2024 19:46

It's all free online, look on youtube.

I mean a tutor that is also a teacher. Rather than a degree student.

Alwaysthesunandthemoon · 03/01/2024 16:03

I found a tutor by asking on the local Facebook group. There are lots of tutors for younger children, less for GCSE and few for A levels. It is also more expensive for A levels.

We found our tutor through a friend. Depending on where you’re based I’d be more than happy to recommend her via private message (she’s fab, we are in SW London).

Hi @Gettingresults11plus Please could you share the details you mentioned of the Latin/Greek tutor?
