Hello 🤗

I have been invited for an interview as a learning support assistant in a SEN school in London. I have been asked to come in 20 minutes early to sit for a "maths & English" assessment. I have no idea as it's literally my first time stepping into a professional world , hence I googled what could possibly be included in a maths test and I was blows away by the crazy questions....massive percentages and differences, calculating profits and loss, dadadadadaaaa....it was all under the title of "basic numeracy for tutors". I wasn't hoping that being labelled as "basic" and also considering the tiny time slot of 20omutea allotted to the assessment makes me believe otherwise. If anyone has attempted and will be able to guide me here would be highly appreciated.

Thank you 😊

I’m a primary teacher so don’t know the interview process for your job but I think it’s a really good idea for candidates to sit the tests. I’ve had quite a few support assistants who have openly said they couldn’t support a child because the lesson was too difficult. Absolutely understandable, but makes things challenging.

I would imagine the test would encompass things that are taught to the highest level of the school so if it’s primary then primary based maths but if it’s also secondary then I’d assume almost the highest level of secondary.

Could you contact the school/ council (whoever is doing the interview) and ask for more information regarding the assessments?
