11+ tutors online

I am a bit overwhelmed with trying to find an 11+ tutor who can teach online. We’re looking in advance (just started year 4) but we’re planning to start tutoring this summer. We live in an area where there just aren’t any 11+ tutors. Has anyone used an online tutor they would recommend? How did you go about finding one?

Watching with interest.

We used explore learning, 11+ group sessions and then bi-weekly 1:1 for maths. Worked well!

We found a company through another forum called Tayberry, and I've seen them recommended a few times on Mumsnet too. We are in the North West (Trafford 11+) and we've been using them for almost a year. We've been very happy with them. I was a bit sceptical about it being online, but my kids much prefer it to the in-person ones we tried.

I'm an 11 plus tutor and offer F2F but also online.

It works brilliantly. Done properly, online is as effective as F2F.

Feel free to contact me or ask on here if you have any questions.

First tutors is a good website to find tutors. They check DBSs and references. They also don't take a 'per lesson' cut like tutorful or tutor hunt.

Be careful to check the tutors qualifications, QTS etc if that's important to you.

Some agencies, including Explore learning, employ 6th formers at £6/7 per hour. I personally wouldn't recommend, although there's obviously a range to suit all budgets.

My daughter's previous class teacher has just moved online to Tutorful. We used him outside of school to build confidence in English in Year 5 (non 11+ area) but he also specialises in maths, KS2, SATs and 11+ prep. She absolutely loved him and actually enjoyed the sessions! He also does small online group sessions if you wanted to join up with her classmates. Happy to pass on his details if you'd like.

DataMum88 · 14/10/2023 03:17

Also worth noting that Tutorful does have a fee (like all agencies) but it's not in addition to the listed hourly price.

Tutors vary hugely so it’s worth trying a few until you find one who fits with your child and helps them make genuine progress. I didn’t use tutors for either of my children and got them through the 11+ with a bit of common sense and practice books from WH Smith so they’re not always necessary.

They take a huge 35% of the fee you pay. For every lesson.

We found a good selection of 11+ tutors for DD (Year 4) for 11+ tuition (Kent Test) through Teachers To Your Home. They only offer qualified teachers for tuition sand so they are all experienced and safe (DBS-checked). The cost for online 11+ tuition is £42ph and for face-to-face is £48ph. They also offer an option for you to pair up with another family (or more) so you can share the tuition costs. We started this in October. We have an excellent 11+ tutor, which we share with a family friend, and so we only pay £26.50ph each week for an hour lesson. The quality is very good and we are pleased with them.

The Childcare website has a searchable database of tutors (plus childminders, nannies, babysitters and even some schools). You can read reviews and message securely. Tutors who are gold members have all had their credentials checked (qualifications, DBS etc). You can search by area or by keyword, so if there's no one in your area then try searching for 'online' or 'Zoom' in the keywords.

It's free for parents to join and you can even post a free advert asking for your requirements if you want to. They have a great score on Trustpilot too.

I found our Tutor on Superprof. Great guy and worked with us on a long-term basis. I've ended up recommending him to a fair few friends in real life and they have been impressed. Feel free to let me know if you need his details (I know how hard it is to find a good Tutor)

Hi @Linda20019, I am interested at your tutor, is he familiar with 11+, creative writing and VR? Could you please pm me more about his background and lesson? Many thanks!

Please I desperately need suggestions of 1:1 (online or face 2 face) 11+ tutor for Reading Grammer School for DS. My DS has been attending a tutoring 'school'. I am very worried with the progress in Vocabulary/English. Please I would appreciate suggestions on tutors and how to support him. Thank you!
