When to get a tutor for 11+?

My daughter is 8, in year 4. If we would like her to have a chance to sit an 11+ and attend grammar school, should we be looking at getting her a tutor now or leave it until she is in year 5?

She is on target with maths and above with reading/literacy, does everyone have a tutor before their 11+?

I'm an 11+ tutor and I would say that it's not necessary to get any help in year 4, beyond encouraging your daughter to read widely and extend her vocabulary. Play games together, discuss the news and a wide range of topics, develop her critical faculty and provide lots of puzzles and problem-solving tasks.

It sounds like she's doing very well academically, so although a tutor could stretch her and enrich her learning - it's certainly not essential at this stage.

Good luck and have fun together!

Kids here that are tutored typically have them lined up in year 4 and start the tutoring in y5 - when the tutors have finished with the current cohort. So there is 1 full year of tutoring before the exams.

(This is an area just out of 11+ so parents are actively trying to get into grammars in the neighbouring area.

Since I watched friends of mine do this about 6/7 years ago there does seem to be a bigger 'industry' in the tutoring....some companies offer to take kids from y3....but as the tutor above say this shouldn't be necessary.)
