Face to Face or online for year 3

Hi
I am looking to get a tutor for my son, he is in year 3. He is doing ok but sometimes finds maths a challenge.
Would people recommend face to face rather than online for a 7 year old? I was thinking face to face would be better at this age, as the teacher can using base 10 or other materials as my son is being taught?

Can anyone suggest a tutor or website (happy to travel) live near Uxbridge / Slough area.

Also how much should i be looking for pay?

Face to face until he’s a bit older (10+). Cost is quite a lot. £25-45 / hour depending.

Do some online research for your area.

Mine are in a face to face maths group. They love it and it’s made an amazing change to ability and confidence.

A good tutor/teacher will be able use manipulatives in both face to face or online sessions. There are digital versions of base ten etc. Class teachers use them too.

I'm a primary tutor and successfully tutor year 3 (and younger) online and face to face. A decent teacher can deliver high quality lessons either way. I find that the biggest barrier to online (and face to face) tuition is behaviour and attitude to learning.

Expect to pay minimum £25/30 if you want a qualified teacher. Those who are good and have years of experience will be upwards of £30/35. This is for one to one. Group tuition tends to be £15-25 per hour but is cheaper for a reason.

I have used both methods to teach. A lot depends on the student. Many young people are very adept with online and use Facebook Messenger/Zoom etc with confidence, so teaching is easy so long as you have the right materials and at that age, lots of games and fun things to do (there are loads of online tools for this). I would discuss in advance with the tutor, what the right duration would be. It might be better to have a couple 30 minute lessons rather than go for an hour at a time. I have worked with disengaged students and although the outcome is less certain, it can be done successfully on line. I have watched a number of first class special needs teachers use online and overcome quite significant barriers to learning. It is always important when selecting a tutor to check they have a recent DBS (ideally enhanced DBS on the update service). Also with a young student, the tutor's knowledge of teaching is very important and it might worth ascertaining if they have training in pedagogy (all Qualified Teachers will of course, but if not a qualified teacher, I would consider a Level 3 qualification in education as a minimum). I hope this is helpful.
