Summer holiday tutoring

Hello,

Hope this is the right place to ask this.

I am primary school teacher with an undergraduate degree in early years education.

I been thinking about tutoring once lockdown is over, specialising in early maths and reading (phonics). I've never thought about it before as I felt year 2 and below was probably a bit young for extra tutoring, however with current circumstances it may be needed.

Do you think there would be a demand for this? Would you hire a tutor for a child as young as 6 or 7? And would you have a tutor during school holidays ?

I am qualified to teach up to 11 but I am definitely strongest in earlier years.

Thank you on advance for any feedback.

Hi there
I'd definately hire you for some catch up sessions my dd is 5 in reception plus it would fill the very long 6 weeks holiday and give her something constructive to do.

If you'd do little workshops say for the full day while people worked like an educational holiday club that would be even better!

I would get advertising - which area are you in?

I would hire you!

I have a tutor for my KS2 DD and she has come in leaps and bounds. I feel year 1 DD has missed out on so much of her early learning. But I would want it face to face at that age I think

Yes I would but I really need years 3&5 . I think it would be a nice top up for what they have missed.

It'll be interesting to see what Boris says tomorrow in his announcement as if schools are expected to facilitate this it might be worth speaking to a local school about some supply work and on the same count if people will get it free they might not pay privately although I would favour a more tailored solution for dd 1-2-1, or in a very small group, not everyone would or would be able to pay for it.

Thank you everyone. I am currently teaching year 1 so wouldn't start tutoring until the end of this academic year as I think my class are going to need a lot of extra support.

I am in Essex so I'm unsure of when we will be able to mix at all, we were quite high on the infection rates.

I really appreciate all of your feedback and I will start planning after Boris' announcement.

The group workshop seems like a good idea, I would have to look at the logistics of it, but I love the idea.

I am trained to teach up to 11 years old but my strength and passion is the younger years so I will concentrate on that.

Thank you again !

This is a list of ideas
Do a variety of timed workshops. You can play games, and create question booklets to use for homework. Set goals and review them often. Make it fun and short. You could have numeracy and literacy workshops that revolve around the pupil's hobbies and abilities. For example, toys/books/games are starting points with plenty of scope etc. Good luck.
