Hello all

Would doing GCSE ENGLISH help me in gaining any tutor work .Unfortunately I have a degree but its from abroad and I am really interested in teaching English .I have worked as KS1 tutor but I am not getting any agency work .They all reject my CV .Would not having a GCSE English be the culprit .

Thanks

When you say you want to teach English, which age group are you targeting?

Of course not having the GCSE is a barrier. English Language GCSE is a core subject and requirement for pretty much everything.

Your CV is probably being rejected because of poor grammar and punctuation; your post contains several errors including missed apostrophes and missed question marks.

I agree with KaptainKaveman. You also seem to have spaces before rather than after your full stops. Some of this might be stylistic differences from different countries but if you want to work in the UK I would expect your writing to reflect the style here.

I would work through some ks2 books too then maybe GCSE Maths and English. I know you might not plan to teach maths but it might offer a little more confidence.

I think it also depends on your price point. I think you would need to be a qualified primary school teacher to demand higher prices so that might be a factor.

I would want a qualified teacher with an English degree for tutoring. You have to have English GCSE to do any primary teaching so it's the bare minimum.

@KaptainKavemana Thank you for your valuable feedback .I am interested only in teaching Year 2 and Year 3.

Do you mean year 2 and year 3? Not many people will want tutors for this age group. Or do you mean key stage 2 and key stage 3?

If I was looking for a Ks2/3 tutor I would be looking for an experienced tutor who was a qualified teacher.

Your English is not at a high enough standard, you don’t appear to have an experience of the English education system so I would doubt you would know what is required.

I have an English degree but I wouldn't try tutoring English as I'm not a qualified teacher and wouldn't really know how to pitch the tutoring at the right level to fit in with the curriculum they are following at school.

You would need English Language and Maths GCSEs for most jobs in the UK so definitely worth doing.
But there could also be other reasons why your applications haven't worked to be honest.
There are jobs for native language speakers in secondary schools which may be another area worth considering. This sort of work isn't available for Y2/3 though.
Primary school teachers in the UK would usually be required to teach across the whole primary age range rather than just these year groups.
