Wondering what platforms/websites schools and tutors are using for online education. Thinking in particular about the coming weeks/months with potential home education. Do you know if your school is going to be offering online tutoring? Using what method for (virtual) face-to-face, multiple screen-sharing etc. Can anyone share any good (or bad!) experiences?

Hi - I have tried to start collating free resources on my twitter account and will add to it over the coming days and weeks to help any parents or teachers in need. I am a science specialist but will try to share resources that cover all subjects and age groups: twitter.com/i_teach_science

Additionally, if you are supporting your child with home learning and get stuck at any point, a great colleague of mine has set up a Facebook group where teachers are on hand to help you out at any point: www.facebook.com/groups/491075171566673/

If anyone was looking for a video tutor for science during the school closures I would love to start tutoring via Skype. I am a Head of Science in a Prep School with 8 years teaching experience + BA Hons (1st Class) reading Biological Sciences and Education Studies from Cambridge University. Happy to provide high quality tutoring, for example 11+ science common entrance preparation. Please just get in touch :)

Hope this helps!

Hi Everyone... I hope you find this post helpful.

In light of the government's recent decision to lock down all UK schools indefinitely, as a Primary School teacher I would like to help children continue their learning. To do this, I have set up a LIVE online classroom which involves fun learning activities directed by me. For more information about my virtual classroom, please email: [email protected] or visit IG: mspsbrightsparks

Please pass this on to anyone else that may benefit from this service. Thank you.

Stay safe and stay clean ❤️

Hey!

My friend was telling me she is registered with Tradewind Recruitment and that they offer online and at home tutoring - she says they are really good and flexible too. Just had a quick look on their social and saw this link that might be useful for you - www.twrecruitment.com/tuition

@SusannahSC Thank you for asking. I'm actually wondering the same thing. My son is currently studying for his GCSEs and is getting limited support in school. Not sure what the best options are for him to keep learning given COVID-19.

I've heard of a few online tutoring apps but am still unsure if this is the way to go! Have you tried these?

Seneca are now doing a more affordable and interesting alternative - think it is £30-ish per month -- www.senecalearningtutoring.com/access

@donnak74
@SusannahSC
I Don't know whether either of you have experiences to report re online tuition? I guess with cancellation of exams this may have fallen down the priority list and at the same time there's the issue of lost learning time for A-levels and I think I have some concerns that this year's GCSE and N5 students won't have gained the valuable experience of public exams before starting their A-level courses...

I've used mostly a browser interactive whiteboard where the student and I can both write at the same time and also files and images of homework and other questions can be uploaded for discussion. Sometimes using zoom, esp. if needing to screenshare a document, but often talking via mobile phone as broadband capacities not always up to running video links and whiteboard's simultaneously...

From my point of view, the difficult with not seeing the student's reactions /expressions is that it's harder to work out what's going on for them... hence face to face preferable in an ideal world!

I've used Tutor League Limited for my son's maths (year 11). They're a small company but the tutor was great. They're doing online tuition if you're looking for that - website tutorleagueuk.com/
