DD attends a grammar school (Y9) and is bright - good memory/analytical ability etc. She has recently been doing some English tests at school and it has highlighted that whilst she is a grade A student at analysing literature etc, her punctuation, grammar etc. lets her down. We are already considering some tutoring to improve her confidence in maths (a sort of revision session) which I think would benefit her greatly and sit along the GCSE syllabus so I don't want to overload her but I really think that this issue with grammar and punctuation is an ongoing issue which hasn't seemed to have vastly improved over time and will affect her overall exam results. I'm thinking more tutoring 1-1 is required but perhaps more toward the GCSE exam i.e. last six months - would this help? I'm at a loss because she doesn't have a lot of self discipline and I believe that wouldn't be self driven to self teach this, yet it is a shame because she is really good with the analytical/creative stuff. Any advice please on the best way to approach this? She also doesn't like being told what to do - it doesn't work when me or dh tries to help her but she has worked alongside a maths tutor in the past.
