Maths tuition cost for year 6

Hi, we are based near London ( SW) and were given a quote from a tutor ( retired secondary maths teacher) for £35/ hr.

Our children turned 10 in the Summer (year 6). The tutoring is for general support in maths - it’s not for any entrance exam or 11+

Does £35 /hr sound about right? We may need an hour and a half or 2 hours for both children weekly. It’s the first time we’ve looked into tutoring so not sure about average tutor rates for this age group.

TIA

The children will be taught separately but consecutively.

I'm not in London but in home counties and charge £33 an hour for children to come to me. I'm about mid range for my area and tutors who travel to the house tend to charge slightly more to cover the time and costs spent travelling. So yes your quote sounds about right.

And I charge the same either it's general tuition or exam tutoring. General tuition often takes longer to prep than 11+ for example as the lesson is even more tailor made.

Thank you for the responses. It’s really helpful to know that the fees sound about right for the level of tutoring. Smile

The fees seem reasonable to me. I do some general tutoring to help primary school children and I ask for £34 a hour of tutoring to cover the cost of getting there and back plus additional expenses for stationery etc. I go to the child’s house. General tuition is expensive. I live and teach students in Surrey but occasionally Kent too. Exam tutoring is somewhat cheaper because I know what exactly they should know.
