We are looking for a personal tutor in Maidenhead to help our 6 year old boy with literacy and communication. Can anyone refer good tutors in the area?

Start a new post with Maidenhead in the title (saves everyone else - like me - wasting time opening the post...), and/or post on the local group for your area. Good luck.

Tutoring is not always hothousing.

OP, don’t let anyone make you feel guilty for trying to do the best for your child!

But who needs to be tutored at 6?

And who mentioned hot housing??

If the child has communication difficulties he/ she may be struggling to understand what is happening at school-going over it with a tutor to fill in those gaps may help prevent the low self esteem which could follow without help. What a thing to say without understanding the background!

Thanks for your kind inputs....
Laura - We feel the same. Hoping to find a kind tutor who can help him catch up to his friends.

Is it a tutor you need, if it's speech issues? Have you tried gp?

We used our local dyslexia association which didn't require a formal diagnosis, just that they were behind their peers in English and/or maths. 10 years on she did really well in GCSEs.

What is the nature of his difficulties? If it is communication, a Speech and Language Therapist might be better. If you want him to catch up generally, a kind, experienced teacher would be good.

An experienced dyslexia assessor who used to be a KS2 teacher would be your best bet if your son does not predominantly have communication-based difficulties.
