Happy Land vs Wooden dolls house type toys

Hi, I have a very nearly 2 year old boy who loves making up imaginative games and enjoys playing with the little people set at his nursery. I want to get him something along these lines for his birthday. I find the ELC Happy Land stuff a bit plastic and garish but am sure he would love playing with it and I like the way that it is extendable. On the other hand there are some nice wooden toys around which I like the look of better, and I think my little boy would also love - I'm not aversed to getting him an actual doll's house but have also seen a fire station where there is a fire engine below and chairs, tables, fireman etc upstairs. I'm a bit worried though that the longevity might be less and it's less easy to add to.
I'd love to hear from other Mums about what your children have enjoyed .....
Many thanks

Mine love Happyland
also Lego - that's used for years

dd got a very basic wooden dollshouse along these lines (second hand) for her 2nd birthday and it;s still a favourite

it's populated by vintage fisher price people, Playmobil figures and various ITNG, Pingu and Duplo characters

a year on it is by turns a hospital / shop / dentist, the downstairs is a garage and boathouse etc etc

so long as you are not precious about everything matching it'll last ages

DD has a fancy wooden farm and a nasty plastic boot with fairies in it - and plays equally with both!
Kids will like whatever - mine has also inherited a variety of other dolls/creatures and they all happily play and populate both the wooden and plastic homes.
Go with the one you like the look of - it will be cluttering up your home for some time

If you don't like the flowery paper in the basic house Mrs Badger linked to you can stick something plain over it before you assemble it, or paint those bits red or whatever...

It looks very versatile, could be a fire station, hospital, railway station or house...

Pintoy and Plan do nice gender neutral dollshouses with lovely primary colour furniture. Just google those companies for the range.

My spoiled DD has both Happyland and wooden doll's houses. She definitely plays with the Happyland one more. I've bought her lots of lovely wooden toys but she seems to prefer the plastic tat. She's now 2.9. I'm hoping she'll grow out of it...
