best playhouse - £100 ish budget

My parents have very kindly given us £100 to buy a playhouse for our boys - so would like some recommendations please!

We can add some of our own money if need be.

Little Tikes seem to have cornered the market but I'm guessing I could get more for my money if I avoided the brand name?

Any that you love, or would definitely avoid?

Have looked on ebay but most of them would involve alot of travelling for collection so think buying new might be easier!

We have the villa playhouse from Toys R Us and it is currently half price at £100 although I seem to remember it was 'half price' when we bought it a year ago

Def cheaper than the Little Tykes alternatives and we've been happy with it.

It is nice and roomy with little windows and two doors which is perfect for our 2yo DTs and would prob be good for your two DSs!

Ours came with two little stools as well although not sure if that offer still applies.

Def nowt wrong with it that I can think of although I would happily trade it in for one of those wooden chalets with gingham curtains and window boxes that GLC do but they cost serious money, sigh.

Am hopeless at links etc but if you go to ToysRus website then search outdoor toys then playhouses and tents you'll find it.

Good luck!

Thank you for that, is it this one villa playhouse?

It looks quite low in height, can your DTs stand up comfortably in there?

Looks roomy though and good value.

That's the one!

They can stand up in it comfortably at the moment but are only 2.3 although on the tall side for their age.

I think height may well be an issue for older children although mine do spend a lot of time sitting in there on their little stools or on the big pile of cushions I put in for them.

DH and his brother (both over six foot) have also been known to spend time in there hiding from playing with the DCs although obviously not standing up

We saw ours in the flesh at ToysRUs so might be worth trying before you buy if you have a local store - I imagine they'll all have their summer stock out now despite the awful weather.

I don't know the prices but if you can afford it I'd probably go for a wooden one which can grow more easily with the boys iykwim, paint it, update it, make a den, office, garage, whatever, the plastic ones aren't as flexible in my opinion

EddieIzzardismyhero · 18/05/2010 21:39

Think that might be out of our budget Deb .

tesco direct do a wooden playhouse called Poppy I think - we have it and they love it - is easy to pretty up DS has workbench in his 'shed' but there is enough space for both DC's to be in there comfortably. Can't remember price but can use clubcard vouchers towards it and we think its fab VFM

EddieIzzardismyhero · 18/05/2010 21:59

Is is this one?

Looks lovely .

OP posts:
artydeb · 18/05/2010 22:07

yes, that's the one - although i'm surprised it's that much money maybe it's gone up a lot, we bought ours about a year ago. Tis still a fab little house though and still worth it (esp with clubcard)!

EddieIzzardismyhero · 18/05/2010 22:15

Lol! I was a bit shocked at the price, but dh has now told me that he'd prefer a wooden one to a plastic one - does it take a lot of maintenance though? We never look after the wooden garden furniture we have now so worry that it would be a major hassle!

No maintenance as yet - comes ready stained so I guess it'll need a spruce up next year or so - and it has a waterproofed roof so not leaked (yet).
