I'd like to get a scooter for my 2.5 year-old dd - which ones are good and safe? Do I need to get her a helmet too?

Mini-micro's are best I reckon.

My DD had a mini-micro and although they are expensive I think they are prob worth it. DD uses it so much I swear she's forgotten how to walk
i don't enforce a helmet for scooters, if she falls it is always onto her knees and not her head (tho I guess it could happen)

We have just bought a 3wheeled type one from Tesco - waybuloo. Ds has been after it for AGES!

lazycat · 01/04/2010 16:33

eek! they're quite expensive! how long do they last?

Waybuloo one was £17

until they are 6 unless they are very heavy for their age. They are fab ours have done the school run on them - 4 miles per day for a couple of years!

My DD has a folding one from ELC with flashing lights which she got for xmas sadly I have SPD so we haven't really had a chance to use it much since finishing work 3 weeks ago ;-(

The idea being that whilst baby has pram she can tag along on that! the fact that it folds means if she gets bored it can be put on pram folded! Also 3 or 4 wheels not 2 wheels so balancing helped!

We have the mini-micro too - I do make DD wear a helmet as she managed to fall over backwards on hers (thankfully whilst wearing said helmet), there was a sickening crack which made me really think about what damage she could have done if not wearing it...

The only downside is EVERYONE seems to have one so may need to be customised to avoid confusion in the playground!

we have an iscoot.

they are fabulous!

Do look them up - they are expensive but DD1 - who was prem and VERY uncoordinated - has been using hers on an almost daily basis since she had it for 3rd birthday..
DD2 - who is nearly 16 months - can already move it along in the kitchen and will be getting her own for her 2nd birthday.

Great! Great! Great!
