Hello

My little boy will be 1 in April and is fast outgrowing his baby toys.

Could you tell me what were/are your baby's favourite toys for this age?

Looking for some inspiration for his birthday...

Thanks so much

We're getting Orbit a wheely bug, some rainbow blocks and some other little bits and pieces. Out of DS2's old toys, current favourites are the Lamaze Stacking Bugs, the Lamaze stacking ball, and this.... in fact that Ball Blast thing has been a firm favourite with every single child that has crossed our threshold, up to the age of about 3, and Orbit loves it.

It's noisy though

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 24/03/2010 10:06

Looks like they've upgraded it, it's now a giraffe....

Second the Tomy Discovery Dome - DS got one for his first birthday and loves it. The more developed he gets the more he can do with it so it's constantly interesting.

He also loves pull-and-go cars; we've got some that work really well on carpet that get used a lot.

Bicnod · 24/03/2010 12:04

Ooooh, thanks Rhian and CSWS, I like the look of the Tomy Discovery Dome. DS loves crawling under chairs/tables etc so I think he'd really enjoy this. Anyone know if the deluxe version is much better or not worth the extra cost?

WFH - love the giraffe ball blast thingy. I'm becoming resigned to the fact that O is in no way a quiet child and will sadly not be content with his beautiful wooden shape sorter.

DD was given a V-Tech walker for her first birthday and still loves it at 20 months.

One of the best toys we bought her is this: simple, portable and she has loved it from 8-9 months to the present. Spent most of yesterday playing it and insisted on taking it with her when we went to the shops.

Bicnod · 24/03/2010 12:43

Thanks Benjy - that looks good for car journies and the like.

He already has a pushalong cart thingy so not planning to get him another babywalker - although I've come across the V-Tech one at a friend's house and he loves it.

These are fantastic for this age group. The blocks are really sturdy and great quality, and you can add on more sets as children get older.

Bicnod · 24/03/2010 12:55

Oooh StarSailors they look fab - will definitely add them to the birthday list

DD was given one of these for her first birthday a couple of weeks ago. She loves it and dances away to the music!

Bicnod · 24/03/2010 20:27

Thanks McDreamy Is the music grating or is it bearable? Good to have insider information on these things...

Ride-on/ push along plastic car thing. My DD got one for her 1st birthday and STILL plays with it occasionally - and she's just turned 4!

Bicnod · 24/03/2010 20:35

Thanks iwasyoungonce I was thinking about asking GPs to get one of those wheely-bug thingies so similar. Anyone got any experience of those?

McDreamy · 24/03/2010 20:40

Music is bearable especially if you set it to the lower volume

StarSailors · 25/03/2010 10:03

Wheely Bugs are fantastic, they are really easy for little ones to steer as the wheels are castors, so can turn in any direction. Older ones love them too as you can make them go really fast, definately a toy that will last years! If you have wooden floors they will work best, they will work on carpets but just not as fast!

Bicnod · 25/03/2010 11:22

Excellent - thanks McDreamy. I'm a big fan of toys with high and low volume settings

Thanks StarSailors - I'm quite excited about the wheelybug now - hope someone gets it for him. We've got lino in the kitchen so I think he'd be able to whizz around there quite happily.

Any other suggestions? My list is looking quite healthy now...
