FurReal Biscuit, My Lovin' Pup - any positive things about it?

Can anyone tell me what this is like. (I think it is absolutely hideous, but it isn't for me).

My dd is 8, she loves dogs and puppies, has been asking for one for years, but we live in rented accommodation and cannot have one. She asked my mother to get a fur real puppy, called Peanut for Christmas, it was going to be a joint present from my separated parents.

My mother has been looking online and now has asked to buy the more expensive biscuit.

Anyone here know anyone who has got one? Can you give me some opinions on it.

DD is a young 8, still plays with playmobil, so I am not worried about her being too old for it... but she had a fur real kitten and rapidly lost interest in it - could only feed it milk, was not very cuddly because of the hard body.

I don't like having toys with batteries, they seem to be quite limited in how much play potential they have, compared to playmobil which is annoying in its own right but at least dd gets hours of fun with all the animals.

She will get less presents on the day as my brothers are going to contribute now too... she might be a bit upset about that, not that I mind!

Maybe I should put this in aibu? as in AIBU to really strongly object to toys like this?

Or AIBU for really not wanting my dd to get this as a present?

It is rubbish she will be bored of it in 15 mins and it will just sit in a corner gathering dust.
My dd has also asked for it no way am I buying it but I have got her the fur real roll over pup only because it is on offer at £15.00 in Argos.
My friend has the biscuit pup and it really is rubbish.

Can't help re the puppy but I bought dd a furreal kitten last Christmas thinking she'd love it but, as you rightly say, it's not cuddly enough.

What's the price of Biscuit - are they still extortionate?

noneshallsleep2 · 26/11/2009 13:49

My 5 year old DD got Biscuit for Christmas last year - she loves it (she told someone yesterday it was her favourite toy). It probably comes out once a day at the weekends, but, having said that, it only gets played with for about 15 minutes at a time. It is very lifelike, and its responses to the voice commands are quite cool. It's also very strokable. On the downside, it is fairly large ...

On the plus side, if she does only play with it briefly, you do have another counter-argument to the "I'd really like a dog..." discussion!

£99.95 at John Lewis. Which I think is way over priced.

My dd got one, a cat, from someone. It's shit and she got bored with it after a while. It's no substitute for a real one and she gets fed up with the noises. Plus the responses are always the same, it doesn't do anything different.

Get a virtual one instead perhaps, I'm sure you could get a Nintendo DS for the same price.

bamboo · 26/11/2009 13:58

£99.95 - ouch! Personally I'd put your mum off, esp if dd has asked for a cheaper one anyway.

momijigari · 26/11/2009 14:01

I totally agree with it being rubbish... what do I do? It seems such a waste of money and everything else, I actually forgot about the fur real kitten and how quickly the bottle got lost, the annoying noises, sigh.

Oh yeah - that mechanical whirring as it moves it's paws!

momijigari · 26/11/2009 14:08

Thank you bamboo - I need all the negatives!

sorry.

I see from your other thread it may be too late!

SoupDragon · 26/11/2009 14:11

Positives? It won't shit on the carpet.

momijigari · 26/11/2009 14:12

I know bamboo, it has been purchased, but it can still be returned! As long as it goes back before dd knows about it of course.

I have never done an aibu before, it is a bit scary in that topic.

dd(8) was playing with it in JL at Bluewater . After just a few mintues she was frustrated with the delay between the command and reaction !

Pwsimerimew · 26/11/2009 14:29

It's £149 in Argos - on sale!

momijigari · 26/11/2009 18:16

Cheers SoupDragon.

LIZS I think that would maybe not be enough to put dd off, but she might be persuaded to get something better, she is completely unaware of all this debate.

I am glad I posted the threads, at least people are articulating everything very well for me! I still haven't told dh, he will be pretty unimpressed I think.
