scooter for a 3 year old

I'm looking for a scooter for ds for his birthday that doesn't cost a fortune but that is "grown up" this one looks great but is rather expensive for us. I have seen www.amazon.co.uk/Ozbozz-SV5964-Cosmic-Flashing-Scooter/dp/B000CESH6S/ref=pd_cp_k_h_b_cs_3 this one but the reviews say it is quite flimsy which puts me off. Folding is good, we walk a lot so I would like to be able to shove it under the push chair if I need to.

Hmmm I just found the flashing light one at Argos for uner £20 and the reviews are really good

Indith I would recommend the mini-micro always as although it is pricey if you look it has two wheels at the front and that makes a world of difference in how adept your child becomes at scootering.

A three year old would be a lot more stable on the micro.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 16/11/2009 13:54

The micro one is good but very pricey and afaik it doesn't fold. It looks like it's for babies according to ds1 too (he's just turned 4)!

My ds1 has got one of the cosmic flashing 3 wheeled ones - we got it from Tesco Direct and used tokens, and it's great. He has had it for about 8 months now and he whizzes round on it. I would recommend it.

1 vote each! could you not agree with each other? Thanks for the input.

we've ordered the tesco direct flashing 3 wheeled one for dd for her b'day.

choppychopster · 16/11/2009 14:10

DD (3.2yo) has had the mini micro one for about 7 months and she loves it.

Her cousin (only 4 months younger) has the Ozbozz flashing one and it seems much less manoverable than the Mini Micro, is more rattley and doesn't go as fast (although that last point is probably good when you're trying to keep up!).

The only downside to the Mini Micro (apart from the cost!) is that it doesn't fold, although it is very light to carry.

There was a thread on here a few months ago witha link to somewhere that was selling the mini micro for about £30. I was as I'd just shelled out £45 for DD's.

Indith · 16/11/2009 14:17

hmm nice to have a comparison choppy. Shall hunt for that thread!

indith did you find the thread? i'd be interested to have alook at it...

Indith · 17/11/2009 08:08

I didn't manage to find anything with it for £30 ja but if you search for mini micro scooter there are a few threads with some more info.

choppychopster · 17/11/2009 16:29

I had a look for the old thread and think I found the link, but they are no longer offering the scooter. It was www.sleepovercompany.com

Indith · 17/11/2009 16:39

Thanks choppy.

Well I think I am going to leave it and see if I can get one in the sales (birthday in Jan I was just trying to be organised, nothing worse than doing all the birthday shopping just after Christmas!) as the micro does seem to be coming out on top. If not It'll have to be the cheaper one as I can't afford it full price!

Mind you not looked on ebay yet

the mini micro is AMAZING. yes, it costs way more but it's more way more manoeverable, way less noisy and already at 3 our dd can go as fast on it as her 6 year old brother on his rattly, noisy folding 2 wheeler one!

everyone says they don't fold and that this is a major downside, it certainly nearly put me off, but the mini micro pops into 2 pieces so easily that can fit under my maclaren stroller no bother.

we love it. only downside for us is that our 17 month old wants one too and there's no way 3 year old will share!!

ja9 · 18/11/2009 20:02

tassisssss you sell it well.... may keep my eyes peeled for deals in the new yr and take back the one i've already bought...

allaboutme · 18/11/2009 20:07

mini micro is amazing, well worth the money
ds is just 4 and he loves his, is on it every single day
ds2 is 21 months and just got the hang of riding it (very slowly!) he is desperate to have a go on it so will most likely be getting another one for his 2nd birthday!

puffling · 18/11/2009 20:09

You can't beat the Mini Micro.

feetheart · 18/11/2009 20:20

Another BIG vote for Mini Micro here.

DS got one for his 2nd birthday and has used it almost daily for 2 years. We were really unsure about getting it because of the cost but it has been THE BEST thing we have ever bought either of our two.

Resale value on eBay looks good too though DS's is much more worn out than any I have seen on there

Indith · 19/11/2009 13:04

Oh you horrible lot. I was so hoping the mini micro would be ok but not all that much better than the rest. There had better be some good sales discounts after Christmas! Thank you for the input.

I'm watching this thread with interest as I also want to get a 2-wheel scooter (for DS2's 4th birthday just after Christmas). He is already an expert scooterer as nursery have them - I don't want a mini micro scooter as I would like him to be practising his balance iyswim. So, foldable sounds good but I'd prefer no lights or sounds - any recommendations?

GreatGooglyMoogly · 25/11/2009 09:54

We went with this one in the end
