DS for a 4 year old?

DH is determined that DD should have a DS for Christmas, though I'm not convinced yet

What DS games would you get for a 4 year old girl?

I really wouldn't! My dt2 drowned his ds that he got for his 4th birthday (against my wishes), when he decided it needed a clean.

If you do decide to do it, mine like film based games a lot - Wall-E, Bolt, etc. Plus Mario Kart.

teameric · 30/10/2009 09:21

games like this? or this
theres loads for ages 3+

sunnyshine · 30/10/2009 09:36

my dd loves hers. is carefully monitored. has to be asked for and is used as reward and discipline too. she has 12 dancing princess, peppas, cooking mama, nintendogs and childens brain training.

bubble2bubble · 30/10/2009 09:38

Oh teameric those look like exactly the sort of thing she would love
Chops - I don't think she would try to wash it, I'm more worried she would just abandon it after 5 minutes. DH is convinced it would help her bond with her little friends - this is based on one conversation with the mother of one of her friends who is buying a Ds for DC I think I woudl just prefer her to play with dolls & prams but I am a sad old bag

I would
there are loads of games that would be suitable

just need monitoring is all

gecko is desperate for a ds for xmas

she isn't getting one lol

but she does get turns on her big sisters

she loves peppa pig, dora, diego and I did it mum.

Blackduck · 08/11/2009 11:08

I wouldn't - I REALLY regret getting ds a DS for his 6th birthday, so I would not recommend it for a 4 year old...

izzybiz · 08/11/2009 11:12

We are getting one for our Dd this yaer, she is 5.
She has a game-I did it mum- (thats a good one to start with.)
She plays it on Dh's DS at the moment.

She wants a pink on for herself, and I'm going to get some games like, peppa pig, the imagine ones look quite good too.

Jas · 08/11/2009 11:12

My ds has one by default.....he broke the top screen of his older sisters by trying t shut it with the stylus on the screen. He has the broken one!

He plays Dora the explorer games. There are loads that are suitable for little ones though.

Buy a screen prtector...they won't stop it getting broken if she does what my ds did, but do protect it from the less gentle stabbing that they can do.

NorbertDentressangle · 08/11/2009 11:15

I wouldn't either.

My DS is 5.4 and doesn't really show any interest in his sisters DSi so I wouldn't be wanting to introduce him to it whilst hes happy with stuff like Plymobil,Lego, colouring.

DD had hers when she was 8/9 and shes been really sensible with her use of it without us having to intervene.

I know friends who have a 4yo who spends his entire time begging to go his DS -drives them mad and I know they regret ever letting him have one.

I think your DH wants it for himself

TrinityHasAVampireRhino · 08/11/2009 11:21

I was thinking that too butterfly

bubble2bubble · 09/11/2009 20:19

well we all know that's the case, but do I just play along with it and pretend I don't realise? ( and buy a pink one, of course)

bubble, I don't think you are a sad old bag, lol. I wouldn't want a DS for my DS until he is much older (I do have one and that is for me).

I think it is nice to see children playing with toys. My cousin is 3 and has a DS and I thought it was such a shame that she takes it to others houses and just sits there with it and does nothing else. All other children I know with them are glued to it and rarely do anything else nowadays but maybe I'm just a bit old fashioned (with my own DS, lol).
