Where oh where can I find a non-girly bike (for an 8YO) with actual proper MUDGUARDS

Nothing pink or purple, tassels on the handlebars are a definite no-no, but otherwise... A boy's bike with lowish bar would be fine.

But none of them seem to feature mudguards -- which, as the person responsible for the laundry, concerns me a bit.

I'm starting to wonder if mudguards have been rendered obsolete by the splendiferousness of contemporary wheel design.

Am I missing something here?

what sort of price range do you have in mind for the bike?

Oh -- I see, it's a way of squeezing extra cash out, is it? Annoying.
Pricewise I guess around £150, maybe a bit more, hopefully it'll last for a few years.

Go to a specialist bike shop. See the range, get advice, get the dc measured up. Then either buy from them or online. (Personally I would hope you'd buy from them, keep the small independant specialists open). Lots of lovely gender-neutral bikes available there. Not so many at places like TRU or Halfords. Mudguards usally bought separately on proper bikes. Often variety available as well, different styles and colours of mudguards. More like customising kits, than money-grubbing.
