my son is soon 7 and was obsessed with Playmobil for years so he’s got a great collection, he would build amazing playsets with them along with the Magna tiles and Duplo blocks, however the last 2/3months he’s lost all interest in them and no longer takes himself off to play or set the up, he says there abit boring now, he tries but won’t last longer than 10mins , he’s not into Lego and never has been he says he dosnt like it, he’s not into any kind of toys and I feel like he’s too young, any tips or ideas ? We have his 7th birthday soon I was thinking of getting some crafty things but wanted some more ideas. He’s got trampoline, bikes, scooters, even a go kart 😂

At 7 my DS(11) liked:

Kinetic Sand (the proper branded stuff)

Lego - perhaps try a set in something he likes such as Minecraft, Star Wars, etc

Science Kits & books

Think Fun Rush Hour game (they also do other good games and puzzles)

RC car

Nerf blasters and targets

Books like the 13th Storey Treehouse series and Dog Man

Would any of the ‘science museum’ types of kits ( age appropriate obv) appeal to him maybe? I’ve no idea what’s available nowadays but simple electronics/ robots etc.

Marble run? Nerf? Thinkfun Rush hour?

RC car
Just bought my 7 year old a swing ball too. He loves it.

Have you taken him to see Toy Story 5 ? It's all about how children are losing the ability to play due to tech.

Is so hard to resist tech but we are trying as hard as we can ! X

At 7 my ds was obsessed with building dens in the woods. He'd spend dYs building hodes covered in branches, against a big tree. He'd grown out of being inside, suddenly turned to damming streams, making stepping stones etc.

One of my dd was never in to toys. She just liked crafts and she still paints and things now she’s grown up. I got her a Billy bookcase when she was little and we kept all sorts of stuff on it. PVA, paints, pipe cleaners, egg boxes, stapler and so on.

We have to do toy rotation and invited play. So hide things, then stick them out in the center of his room but don't mention it. At the end of the week hide that stuff and put out a new box.

My son is a similar age. He’s definitely outgrown most of his toys. He still likes Lego but he is already on to adult Lego sets now. He likes following the instructions to build something specific, like the architecture kits, rather than free-playing. He’s very into Pokemon so spends a lot of time building houses for them. In reality though, he’s got to the stage where he’d just rather be kicking a ball (or anything vaguely similar to a ball) around.
