Second birthday present - learning tower, globber, yoto player, tripp trapp chair?

Our little one is turning 2 soon and we've had some ideas one what we/family can get him but stuck on which ones are actually as good as they seem - or which just seem like good ideas but in reality are barely used and/or cause issues!

Learning tower
Globber 4 in 1
Yoto player
Tripp trapp chair

Anyone have any of the above and can share insights into if actually worth it or not? Thanks :)

Globber and Yoto out of that list.

Its late to be getting the tripp trapped to be honest, it will be a waste of money. Same with the learning tower.

YellowHatt · 16/07/2025 19:09

At 2 I’d go straight to a balance bike over a globber.
Mine loves the yoto.

tangobravo · 16/07/2025 19:18

Yoto! Love ours although it has really come into its own now he's about 2.5. Too late for the tripp trapp as above.

NameChange30 · 16/07/2025 19:22

Yoto player definitely. They are so awesome. I can send you my referral link for a discount if you want.

A scooter is also a good gift but I'd recommend a mini micro (with adjustable handlebar).

Peanut91 · 16/07/2025 19:24

We bought a Tonie box for DS2's second birthday and we have had so much use out of it. The kids listen to it everyday before bed, on long journeys etc. and it creates lots of future present opportunities to buy new characters

Baby26 · 16/07/2025 19:24

We have 3 of the things listed here!
Learning tower - a must get!
Globber 4 in 1 - don't bother! Get a normal scooter. This one's rubbish to steer.
Yoto player - OK. Ours doesn't get used much.

In my experience the learning tower still has at least another year and a half to be used. My 3 and a half year old uses his!

BluNavy · 16/07/2025 19:30

We got a yoto at 3 and it's still being used at 6 every day. I think 2 is a bit young and would get the learning tower. My 2 year old spends all get time in the kitchen on it helping cook or doing activities at the same height as us.

NannyR · 16/07/2025 19:31

I know 12 and 13 year olds who still use tripp trapp chairs so it's still worth getting, learning towers are nice but not really essential.
I would go for a scooter or balance bike for a second birthday.

A water table for playing in the garden.

jesihar · 16/07/2025 19:36

Learning tower if you are a big cooking family

Globber we have had a great deal of use from.

agree a water table. Or a mud kitchen.

mess. That’s what toddlers like. Mess.

Holidayholidayhiday · 16/07/2025 19:38

Our 4yr old still uses her learning tower every day in the kitchen. Might depend a bit on your home but for us it has been amazing. She can get her snacks out the cupboard, make her breakfast, help with baking and cooking and she absolutely loves it. I think if we didn’t have it she would feel less involve in cooking and we would struggle to entertain her while making dinner and would probably rely on more screen time. We probably got it when she was about 2yrs old and it has been a great purchase. We also have a Yoto mini and like that too.

NameChange30 · 16/07/2025 19:43

A play kitchen is another good gift if you don't have one yet.

NaranjaDreams · 16/07/2025 19:49

I’d agree that a Tripp Trapp is probably past it now. We got one at 14 months, thinking we’d have loads of use given all the anecdotes of older kids, but he stopped using it around 2. He could sit in a normal chair then and preferred to kneel to be taller. He’s 3.5 now and it’s not been used in over a year.

I didn’t love the Globber but my son never really loved scooters. He always preferred bikes. He has friends who were obsessed with it, though.

We have some little steps instead of a leaning tower; which he’s loved and have more longevity.

I love our Yoto which was also a second birthday present, but he didn’t really start using it until a few months ago. Before that he enjoyed putting the cards in and out but didn’t really care for listening to anything on it.

I’d go for a mix of annual passes/memberships to things he’ll enjoy through the year and fun things for two year olds; rather than more practical things. It’s lovely to look back at photos of things that made their day!

Must depend on the child. Mine got one for their 1st birthday and used it straight away, it comes out at least once a week. We asked family members to record stories and messages and DC loved listening to those.

BarnacleBeasley · 17/07/2025 09:44

We still use the Tripp Trapp (DS is 4) but it's not a very exciting present for the child, as it's just a normal chair to them. However, I would say that DS didn't really also fully grasp the idea of presents that he might specifically want to have until 2.5 when he came home from nursery announcing what Santa was going to bring him for Christmas. So if you think you would find a Tripp Trapp useful and it's an opportunity to get a relative to buy it instead of you buying it yourself, this is the last birthday you'll get away with that kind of thing.

We never got a learning tower and DS just gets a stool if he wants to help cook, though I guess it could be useful for a 2 year old who is still at the 'falling off' stage.

I think we got a proper balance bike for DS when he was 2 (Frog Tadpole).

Can I suggest that you look on Facebook Marketplace for these things, there are some excellent good as new baby items on there. My daughter has bought most of her baby items and toys on there at a fraction of the price.

Sunmea · 30/07/2025 07:58

Thanks for all the replies and suggestions, we ended up getting a balance bike and family got a yoto player

Surely a chair isn’t a very exciting gift for a child.

Baby26 · 30/07/2025 09:27

@FrenchandSaunders I would agree with you if it was the only thing the child was receiving but if they are getting numerous gifts, it doesn't matter. At 2, they are happy with a bottle of bubbles!

He's only 2, and got other presents from us/family/friends. I guess a birthday just seems like a good excuse to buy a 'bigger' item that we maybe wouldn't otherwise buy 🤷‍♀️ anyway we didn't end up getting the chair as I mentioned above
