Tonies or Yoto

Which one is better for a 3 yo?

I like the look of the tonies one really but would I be better getting yoto?

The cards for the yoto - how flimsy are they? Are they likely to be damaged by a toddler trying to put them in or are they quite robust?

I'm sure it's been asked loads but I'm not sure if I can search on the app so I'm asking again, sorry.

We have a yoto. The cards are quite robust, like a credit card.

When I looked into it I figured that Tonies are easier to control, but a Yoto can last them until they're a bit older.

Edit to add our DS is 5 though

Hey! I would go Yoto, The Tonie has characters that sit on top - easily get knocked off plus they tend to play with them and lose them… my little one has no interest playing with the Yoto cards!

YouveGotAFastCar · 23/10/2024 06:18

Absolutely the Yoto. We had both and the Tonie just didn’t compare.

The cards are pretty robust, my son has had his since 20 months or so and has never broken one.

Definitely yoto. I got one for my DS at 3 and at 6 it is still his most used toy.

The cards are robust and you can also control it from your phone so if you lose or break one it’s not a big deal (and you can buy make you own cards and download any lost cards on to those).

My nieces have tonie and the figures are a pain to store and transport and also cost twice as much as the yoto cards.

I adore our tonie 🥰 love the figures too, they’re beautiful. I haven’t tried the other one but I love the tonie selection and style

We have a Yoto. The cards are really robust and not going to be broken by your average relatively supervised small child.

From what I've seen with friends, the Tony box gets the kids attention from a smaller age due to using toys rather than cards. Most of our NCT group got Yoto or Tony around the age of 2. Our son had zero interest in the Yoto until nearly 3, whereas his friends with Tony boxes started using them more immediately. But by "using them", I don't mean using them properly, just playing around with the figures and buttons.

We went with Yoto because the player itself seemed like it had features which would last longer (the podcast, the radio etc). And I don't like the figures- they take up a lot more space and I could just see them getting lost because DS wanted to use them as normal toys.

Yoto mini. We got our 4.5 year old one for Christmas two years ago and he loves it! The cards are robust and it really does grow with them. He's moving on from his love of the Julia Donaldson cards onto things like The Enormous Crocodile. His little sister is getting a yoto mini for Christmas, so she'll inherit the outgrown cards.

When I had a look at the two systems I liked that the yoto grows with them and I also liked how portable the mini is, which has been great for holidays. The battery is really long lasting too.

Yoto definitely!

DD got a tonie for her 4th birthday and has used it at bedtime every day since, (she's 7 now) but is now very limited in age appropriate stories so she's getting a yoto mini soon. Tonies are great for younger kids but yoto will last longer.
