Kinetic sand for 3yo - yay or nay?

My DD is about to turn 3 so looking for present ideas. Is kinetic sand messy? Or should I wait until she's older?

Any other suggestions for toys that have kept long term interest at this age?

Thank you!

Kinetic sand is great! It sticks to itself so easy to pick up if it does get dropped.

Not messy at all. Amazing toy that all my kids, and me, love it!

Kinetic sand isn't as messy as normal sand, but I would have it out as a supervised activity, especially with a just turned 3 year old.

I feel like a broken record as I say this on a lot of theads, but the toy you're looking for is magnetic tiles. (picasso, magna tiles, connetix etc) They grow with a child and will be used for years.

Kinetic sand is great, I would advise having some sort of tray to play with it on to keep it in one place, but other than that it isn't a particularly messy thing to clear up. It's a fantastic sensory toy - I love playing with it too!

Kinetic sand is great! It still requires a bit of supervision but tbh I quite enjoy playing with it with them too. It clumps together so it's actually less messy than normal sand.

Love kinetic sand here. Consider buying a set in a case. Easy to store and play with

If you're open to messy play ideas i love the inspire my play play tray. Good for kinetic sand, playdough, water play etc.

We got a set of stapelstein for my just turned 3 year old at christmas. They are hugely loved and played with! Not just stepping stones, bowls, water play, sorting activities.

Magnetic tiles are a must. Be cautious of cheapo amazon ones some have failed safety tests.

3 is when my DD noticeably got more into pretend play. So pretend play sets go down well, doctors, vet, makeup, hair dresser. She also got a little dollshouse which she plays with alot and acts out things.

We loved kinetic sand! We had some quite elaborate sandcastle moulds that were amazing to use.

The toy that got the most use in our house over the preschool years was a marble run that could be built and rebuilt in loads of different ways. Both DC loved it. They are 14 and 11 now and still enjoy playing with it when we have younger DC round to visit.

It does fall on the floor, but easy to sweep up with a dustpan and brush. It is great for developing motor skills. I love the stuff.

Marble run is another great toy with loads of long term play value. At just turned three, you will be doing most of the building and supervising the marbles, but children love dropping the marbles down it. As they get a bit older they can build it themselves, I know teenagers and adults who love to get the marble run out. I would get the Galt branded one as it connects together well and doesn't break easily, and you can add to it over the years.
