Second hand and dusty smells of smoke or damp

Hi,
I am feeling indecisive and would appreciate other views/knowledge.
I bought some second hand sylvanian stuff from facebook marketplace for my daughter's birthday.
The house we collected it from smelt a bit - more like damp rather than smoking. It had said pet and smoke free on the ad and I stalked the person on facebook (been bitten before with baby toys from chain smokers covered in cat and dog hair in a filthy filthy house) and I didn't see anything untoward.

I've got the stuff home and it is dusty and smells a bit - a bit like smoking.
I thought I could wipe over with a wet cloth but there are nooks and crannies were it's difficult to get all the dust out from. Do you think it's a health risk to my children? One (not the birthday girl) has allergies.
I'm talking myself out of it now, but I can't afford new and the birthday girl will be so disappointed.

Try wiping with a wet wipe and then leaving outside for a day or two to get some air?

Use a clean dry paintbrush to get the dust off.
Wash all the bits you can and wipe the rest, air dry and leave outside for a couple of hours. I think it will be fine.

Why are you only just wiping with a wet cloth? A wet cloth could be stinking too. Take a scrubbing brush/ toothbrush and give it a good scrub with washing up liquid and leave it in the sun. Should sort it out properly.

Thanks good tips - I hadn't thought of using brushes of any kind.
